I'm Still In China
I'm having a great time, wish you were here...
By now, I have so many stories to tell you, it's crazy. But, as I had to prepare these newsletters prior to my departure to China, these stories will have to wait until I come back and see you at the club on Wednesday! So meet me there, and let's dance.
Ron and Gio and I are looking forward to another great series of classes starting this week. So go online and sign up and make sure to tell your friends about one of the greatest parts of your life - swing dancing!
Our Featured Class is Balboa - and it's open to all levels!
Sunday, April 10... It's FREE! Come Along
The Colburn School of Performing Arts is devoting an entire day to tap dance. Much of the day is free, and it's all open the public.
I'll be doing a fun clip show and history talk at 12:45pm and then on a panel at 2:30. There is tap show in the early evening.
If you're looking for something fun to do... and get excited about our upcoming Tap Workshop (April 17th), come along!
Los Angeles is full of incredible tap dance artists, and loads of them are part of this festival. It's quite the opportunity. So if you are of a mind... I'll see you there.
Click HERE for all the details.
That's all for now...
See you on April 6th at Rusty's!!!!

See you on the dance floor!

I do not try to dance better than anyone else.
I only try to to dance better than myself.

TAP FOR LINDY HOPPERS!
with Rusty Frank
I often get asked to teach tap dancing by Lindy Hoppers. I fashioned some material that is wonderfully accessible for social dancers and to really help them (YOU!) get their feet moving, while at the same time learning the basics of tap dance.
You can be a total tap beginner, or even have a little background, and you're certain to enjoy this workshop.
QUESTION:
"WILL TAP HELP MY LINDY?"
ANSWER:
"YES!"
I get asked that question often, and I can say that tap dancing will definitely help your dancing. How? It will get you moving your feet more intricately and learning some nifty syncopations that you can put in your dancing.

BALBOA!
Balboa today is commonly used as a general term for dances that originated in Southern California during the 1920s and 1930s. It is a form of swing dance that started as early as 1915 and gained in popularity in the 1930s and 1940s.
The art of Balboa is in the subtle communication between the lead and follow, including weight shifts, which most viewers cannot see. As a result, Balboa is considered more of a "dancer's dance" than a "spectator's dance".
Balboa is danced to a wide variety of tempos. Because the basic step takes up such a small space, Balboa can be danced to fast music (over 300 beats per minute). Balboa is also danced to slow music (under 100 beats per minute), which allows more time for intricate footwork and variations.

LOST YOUR JOB? TOOK A PAY CUT?
DON'T BE A STRANGER! WE'LL WORK SOMETHING OUT FOR YOU
Every now and again, people just disappear from our scene who have been regular dancers.
I wonder why.
Did they get married, did they move, or did they suffer some financial hit.
If it's economics, please know that you are always welcome. Don't stay away.
We can work something out! Here's some options:
~ I am happy to work out trades... you could sit at the door for a bit at the Rhythm Club in exchange for the dance that night.
~ Find me at the Rhythm Club, and just pay what you can.
~ I'll give you some Rhythm Club passes until this era blows over for you.
~ And the same thing goes for all Lindy By The Sea classes!
I know that dancing really helps in hard times.
So don't be a stranger!
We'll work it out to meet your needs.
