"On with the dance! let joy be unconfined;
No sleep till morn,
when Youth and Pleasure meet
To chase the glowing hours with flying feet."*
~George Gordon, Lord Byron, Childe Harold's Pilgrimage
*I couldn't resist using this quote because of the "flying feet" -- which is just what will be flying at our Aerials Workshop tomorrow. Oh, boy!

A NEW LINDY BY THE SEA BABY!
You all know I love what I do. You can see it on my beaming face every week in classes and the club. I love watching you as you make new friends, laugh, enjoy the dancing, and learn something new. I love that we build a "community" through it all that really makes our world a better place.
Sometimes people even meet a life partner on my dance floors; in 2009 we had four marriages. And all time record for one year.
And sometimes, something most special happens...
... a new little human being enters the world because of it all.
Last week, Kimmy & Brian Raley (one of those 2009 couples) welcomed their little lead - Harris Alan Raley - into the world.
Here's a picture of the proud auntie with her new little swing nephew.
Isn't he beautiful?
Rusty at Kimmy & Brian's wedding... notice the two "thumbs up"!
Maybe one day he'll be dancing with Gio & Akiko's little girl, Mizuki
CONTRATS TO ZEESHAN and EMILY & RAY!
Okay, do you mind terribly if I go on with the proud teacher stories? ;)
Last weekend at the Atomic Ballroom contest, three of our Lindy By the Sea dancers placed really well!
Congratulations to Emily & Ray for coming in 1st in Balboa, and to Zeeshan for entering his very first contest (a contest for 1st time competitors) and placing 2nd!
Here's a nice little note from Zeeshan:
Good morning Rusty!!
Good news: I went to atomic ballroom yesterday for the jitterbug contest and I
competed in the First time completing contest. ... and guess what!!! ----------
I won second prize! :))))
sooo soo happy.
And thank you for teaching Rusty.
You are the BEST! :)
FOOTBALL BEFORE FOOTBALL
What? That's right, learn a "Football" before you watch football at the Super Bowl.
We'll be teaching two great aerials at the workshop, The Boker and the Helicopter. As with all Lindy Hop moves, the Helicopter is known by many other names:
The Around The Back
So come along and join the fun. Read all about it here:

For those thinking of doing the Aerials Workshop and for those already excited about it, take a look at our THIS CLIP - the two aerials we're going to work on are at: :21 (The Bocker) and 1:10 (The Helicopter). Wow! Of course, this group of dancers - Whitey's Lindy Hoppers - had been doing these aerial for years by the time this clip was shot, and were known for their amazing acrobatics. So you won't look quite as amazing... close... but not quite (wink).

THE GREAT LOS ANGELES AIR RAID OF 1942
Rusty Teaching Swing Class
Join me at one of our regions most original and fun events of the year. I'll be hosting the dance class, and you can join that to show all the newbies how it's done and then enjoy the rest of this truly amazing event. Here's a bit of the story from their website:
The Fort MacArthur Museum is proud to present what has become one of our most popular signature events. The Great Los Angeles Air Raid of 1942 is the museums celebration of one of the most fascinating and controversial events in Los Angeles History. A night when literally thousands of people both Military and Civilian were convinced that Los Angeles was being attacked from the air, and even from space!!! What really happened that night is a debate that will probably go on for years, but for those of us it's a time to remember the feeling of those early days of the World War II.
In February 1942, the realities of the second world war was just starting to become evident here is the southland. The Great LA Air Raid of 1942 is a fundraiser for the Fort MacArthur Museum and attempts to recreate the atmosphere of a 1942 social evening out, interrupted by the reality of war.

LOST YOUR JOB? TOOK A PAY CUT?
DON'T BE A STRANGER!
WE'LL WORK SOMETHING OUT FOR YOU
Every now and again, people just disappear from our scene who have been regular dancers.
I wonder why.
Did they get married, did they move, or did they suffer some financial hit.
If it's economics, please know that you are always welcome. Don't stay away.
We can work something out! Here's some options:
~ I am happy to work out trades... you could sit at the door for a bit at the Rhythm Club in exchange for the dance that night.
~ Find me at the Rhythm Club, and just pay what you can.
~ I'll give you some Rhythm Club passes until this era blows over for you.
~ And the same thing goes for all Lindy By The Sea classes!
I know that dancing really helps in hard times.
So don't be a stranger!
We'll work it out to meet your needs.
