WHEN YOU TRAVEL - DANCE

Just in case you have any travel plans left for this summer, don't forget to take advantage of your favorite hobby - swing dancing! It's easy, do a Google search on "Lindy Hop... city you are visiting" and you'll suddenly find yourself with a whole new crowd of friends.

As you are reading this, I am winging my way to New York to attend two fabulous events, one is the Jazz Age Picnic on Governor's Island and the other is Vince Giordano and His Nighthawks at The Edison.

See ya on Tuesday in class with loads of stories!

And let's see how Ron and his wife made a hit on their Alaskan cruise with their lindy hop on board.

LET'S CELEBRATE RUDY'S BIRTHDAY
"OH, YOU KID!"

One of our very favoritie Rhythm Club "kids," Rudy Flores, is celebrating his birthday this week, so let's really show him we love him by giving him (and the other celebrants) a great birthday dance at the club this Wednesday, September 1st.

I had a nice talk with Rudy last Wednesday at Rusty's and he told me some intertesting things about himself:

"I was born in 1926 at home, here in Los Angeles. The doctor came to our house and charged my folks $35." How about that!

Rudy did some dancing back in the day, but then it was called "The New Yorker" - what we now call East Coast Swing.

He found our new era of swing at the old Satin Ballroom. And, boy, are we glad he found us!

For those of you who don't know, Rudy comes in to the club each week with a great big smile on his face and these words:

"I'm here for my weekly pleasure treatment and my anti-aging therapy."

You gotta love him!

Make sure you give him loads of hand shakes, hugs, and kisses Wednesday!

THIS WEEK'S CONTEST!!*

The first person to send us an email with the answer to the following wins a free pass to the Rhythm Club:*

QUIZ:

When do prices go up for A Tribute to the Groovie Movie?

Send your answer to us at info@rustyfrank.com.
Only the weekly winner will receive a response to their Contest Answer.

NOTE: Google is your friend! All the answers are only a Google search away. Have fun and learn about our swing history at the same time.

LAST CONTEST

QUIZ:

Why was it a surprise to Benny Goodman that there was such an enthusiastic and large crowd waiting for him at the Palomar Ballroom on August 21, 1935?

ANSWER:

Because Benny Goodman's first national tour had been such a flop up until then. This was the last engagement on the tour, so he assumed another bad show. But what he didn't know, was Californians had been listening to his radio show at 9pm when it was broadcast from NY at midnight (when most people there were already asleep). He had a huge fanbase here and didn't know it.

WINNER:

No one
*Contestants may play as many times as they wish, but may only win the prize once a year. Contestants must use their Rhythm Club pass for the week they won the contest.

LOST YOUR JOB? TOOK A PAY CUT?
DON'T BE A STRANGER!
WE'LL WORK SOMETHING OUT FOR YOU

Every now and again, people just disappear from our scene who have been regular dancers. I wonder why. Did they get married, did they move, or did they suffer some financial hit.

If it's economics, please know that you are always welcome. Don't stay away. We can work something out! Here's some options:

~ I am happy to work out trades... you could sit at the door for a bit at the Rhythm Club in exchange for the dance that night.

~ Find me at the Rhythm Club, and just pay what you can.

~ I'll give you some Rhythm Club passes until this era blows over for you.

~ And the same thing goes for all Lindy By The Sea classes!

I know that dancing really helps in hard times. So don't be a stranger! We'll work it out to meet your needs.
