"Will you whirl about in the pool of life with me?
We'll design the dance according to our dreams....Ó
~ I saw this on a bench plaque in Central Park, NYC. "In Memory of Jeanne S. Rubinstein (1922-2001)" Would have liked to have known her...

HOW DO YOU GET TO CARNEGIE HALL? BRING YOUR TAP SHOES!
May is always the grand celebration of Tap Dance Day, and as I reported in earlier newsletters, I spent two weekends celebrating! First in Tucson and then in Manhattan, I joined tap dancers from around the country and around the world in celebrating this uniquely American artform.
I really got to see the power of Facebook while in Manhattan my first night. I was strolling around Times Square with an ol' college friend. We snapped a photo on my iPhone and I posted it on Facebook. About an hour later, I had a text on my phone from George Gee, telling me he had put my name on the guest list at Swing 46 for that same night. When I got to the club, I asked him how he knew I was in New York. "Rusty! I saw your picture on Facebook!" Wow!!! And thank goodness, 'cause I got a great night of dancing to his fabulous band.
I've posted some of my TUCSON PHOTOS HERE and some of my NEW YORK PHOTOS HERE, and on my Facebook page.

SwingDanceShop.com - "Swing, Baby Swing"
Norma Miller's latest book tells the history of swing dancing from its beginnings at the Savoy Ballroom, through the revival that started in the eighties and ending with the passing of her lifelong friend, Frankie Manning, last year. A slender oversize paperback (8" x 9 1/2", 78 pages), the book is beautifully designed and chock full of pictures.

Founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, the club has two missions: Having Fun and doing good deeds. Volunteers go to hospitals, ,senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.
The Swing Shift Rhythm Club (SSRC) is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by it's members. There are no dues, members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.

LOST YOUR JOB? TOOK A PAY CUT?
DON'T BE A STRANGER! WE'LL WORK SOMETHING OUT FOR YOU
Every now and again, people just disappear from our scene who have been regular dancers.
I wonder why.
Did they get married, did they move, or did they suffer some financial hit.
If it's economics, please know that you are always welcome. Don't stay away.
We can work something out! Here's some options:
~ I am happy to work out trades... you could sit at the door for a bit at the Rhythm Club in exchange for the dance that night.
~ Find me at the Rhythm Club, and just pay what you can.
~ I'll give you some Rhythm Club passes until this era blows over for you.
~ And the same thing goes for all Lindy By The Sea classes!
I know that dancing really helps in hard times.
So don't be a stranger!
We'll work it out to meet your needs.
