“By giving the public a rich and full melody, distinctly arranged and well played, all the time creating new tone colors and patterns, I feel we have a better chance of being successful. I want a kick to my band, but I don't want the rhythm to hog the spotlight.”

1940'S NITE & "GLENN MILLER TRIBUTE" WITH ESQUIRES
THIS WEDNESDAY AT RUSTY'S

This is actually a first for us! And I am super excited. I think if you asked the average swing dancer to name as many Glenn Miller tunes as possible, they might come up with only 1-3.

Of course, I hope everyone would name that perennial hit, "In The Mood," but maybe they would also come up with "Pennsylvania, 6-5000," "Tuxedo Junction," and a couple more. But, this week, you'll be delighted with what Wolf Fengler, intrepid leader of The Fabulous Esquires, has come up with for us.

In his own words:

"A band ought to have a sound all of its own. It ought to have a personality." - Glenn Miller

More than any other of the great bands of the swing era, the Glenn Miller Orchestra captured the hearts of the listening and dancing public with its unique sound, lush ballads, and foot-tapping swing numbers.

We are very excited to offer to you our tribute to the great Glenn Miller. Along with some of his greatest hits, we will present B sides, movie music and charts from his days in the Army Air Corps. Joining the Esquires will be Melissa Allen, Nate Brandstater and The Master's Plan to recreate those great Modernaires vocal harmonies.

We can't wait to share this unforgettable night of music and dancing with you...see you there!

All the best,
Wolf Fengler
The Fabulous Esquires Big Band

AND DON'T FORGET TO DRESS IN 1940'S STYLE

THIS WEEK'S CONTEST!!*

The first person to send us an email with the answer to the following wins a free pass to the Rhythm Club:*

QUIZ:

Where was Glenn Miller going, and for whom was he going to play, when his plane disappeared over the English Channel on December 15, 1944?

Send your answer to us at info@rustyfrank.com.
Only the weekly winner will receive a response to their Contest Answer.

NOTE: Google is your friend! All the answers are only a Google search away. Have fun and learn about our swing history at the same time.

LAST CONTEST

QUIZ:

This week's clip is the song "Rosie The Riveter." To whom was this song referring?

ANSWER:

NOTE: Our winner, Kenn Horowitz, discovered an awesome website, that I highly recommend you check out: http://www.pophistorydig.com/?tag=rosie-the-riveter-song

Now... here's the answer:

The “We can do it “ poster depicted in the you tube pick of the week video is Geraldine Doyle. However the original poster is of “Rosie the Riveter” and is the name of a fictional character who came to symbolize the millions of real women who filled America’s factories, munitions plants, and shipyards during World War II. In later years, Rosie also became an iconic American image in the fight to broaden women’s civil rights.

WINNER:

Kenn Horowitz

*Contestants may play as many times as they wish, but may only win the prize once a year. Contestants must use their Rhythm Club pass for the week they won the contest.

LOST YOUR JOB? TOOK A PAY CUT?
DON'T BE A STRANGER!
WE'LL WORK SOMETHING OUT FOR YOU

Every now and again, people just disappear from our scene who have been regular dancers. I wonder why. Did they get married, did they move, or did they suffer some financial hit.

If it's economics, please know that you are always welcome. Don't stay away. We can work something out! Here's some options:

~ I am happy to work out trades... you could sit at the door for a bit at the Rhythm Club in exchange for the dance that night.

~ Find me at the Rhythm Club, and just pay what you can.

~ I'll give you some Rhythm Club passes until this era blows over for you.

~ And the same thing goes for all Lindy By The Sea classes!

I know that dancing really helps in hard times. So don't be a stranger! We'll work it out to meet your needs.
