VETERANS DAY

NEW LOOK OF THE NEWSLETTER

Times change, technology changes, and me, the people, are sometimes the slowest to change. So today, I am attempting to catch up and create a newsletter that you can look at on your computer or your PDA and phones.

This first attempt may not work as perfectly as I hope. But, know that I am trying might hard!

I get emails every week from people locally and all around the world telling me how much they look forward to the email. They enjoy the inspiring photos, clips, quotes, links, plus the local news.

I have tried to condense the newsletter without losing its heart and soul.

If this works, and you can quickly see all the news, I hope to be able to cut down on the number of extra emails that focus on just one of the topics (such as classes, workshops, special events). I know this would please a ton of you!

Say, it would help me a lot of I could get your feedback. Here's my email address - rusty@rustyfrank.com.

HOW TO GET THE NEWS QUICKLY?

There is a menu, "News of the Week," below where the contents of the newsletter are listed. Each subject is a link that will bring you deeper into the newsletter for complete information.

WHAT'S DIFFERENT?

I have moved the "News of the Week" menu to the top of the newsletter, so that you can get to that right away. The Picture of the Week and The Quote of the Week now follow A Note From Rusty.

I have also changed the width so the newsletter should fit better when viewing from your PDA.

I have taken out the embedding Clip of the Week, and now it is a little television graphic that you click on and it will take you directly to YouTube.

I have also added a "Back to Top" link at the end of every story, so that you can pop right back up to the News Menu. This way you can just read what interests you easily.

A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR VETERANS

We take so much for granted. But let's never take for granted those in our country who gave willing to serve our country. Here in our own back yard, there are many.

Next time you see our WWII Vets, Rudy or Sol, make sure to give them a special thank you.

Artie Shaw led a Navy band in World War II that toured the South Pacific — playing in jungles so hot and humid that the pads on the saxophones rotted and horns had to be held together with rubber bands. Seventeen times they were bombed or strafed by Japanese planes.

"I remember an engagement on the USS Saratoga, this huge carrier. And we were put on the flight deck and we came down into this cavernous place where they, three thousand men in dress uniforms ... and a roar went up. I tell ya you know it really threw me. I couldn't believe what I was seeing or hearing, I felt something extraordinary. I was by that time inured to success and applause and all that you'd take that for granted after a while. You could put your finger out and say, 'Now they're gonna clap.' But this was a whole different thing. These men were starved for something to remind them of home and whatever is mom and apple pie. And the music had that effect I suppose."

JUAN & SHARON
A beautiful new routine by Juan & Sharon

Sharon Davis is from Australia, and Juan Villafane is from Argentina. These two have been dancing together for some time, and I just love their choreography. I was chatting with Juan last night from France and he pointed me to their new routine. Wow. Somehow it reminds me of a fun Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers number. Enjoy! (Don't look for any fancy aerials, just great musical and playful dancing.)

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!
