THE ONLY THING BETTER THAN DANCING IS MORE DANCING!

FREE DANCE THIS SATURDAY IN LONG BEACH
WITH JUMPIN' JOZ, RUSTY FRANK, AND YOU! SATURDAY, AUGUST 29, 2009 5-8PM

What could be more better than more dancing? (to paraphrase Ella) This Saturday you can do it for FREE with all of us on the Pike in Long Beach. On hand will be one of our favorite bands, Jumpin' Joz. Yours truly will be teaching two swing classes during the band breaks. All we need is YOU to come along and help make the event terrific.

Sounds like a perfect Saturday nite to me. Dancing under the stars with all my pals.

Hope to see you there!

Meet us near Kavikas Grill and Bar, 95 Aquarium Way, Long Beach 90802. Here's a map for you:

SEPTEMBER 2ND ~ STEVE LUCKY, FROM SAN FRANCISCO!
RHYTHM CLUB DEBUT!

I can't tell you how long we've been waiting for Steve Lucky & The Rhumba Bums Featuring Carmen Getit. Let me put it simply... I've been running this Wednesday dance since 1998, and that's how long we've been waiting!

Steve Lucky is from the Bay Area, and we've had many conversations about how fun it would be if they were ever down her to play at Rusty's Rhythm Club. It's finally happened. And it's next week.

So help spread the word, and don't miss it! It may be another eleven years before we get them back.

See you on the dance floor!

CLIP OF THE WEEK
ELLA FITZGERALD 1942

Ella's famous song, "A-Tisket, A-Tasket," came up in class last night while we were learning the swingout variation "The Basket." I thought it would be fun to put in this clip of her singing the song from the Abbott and Costello movie "Ride 'Em Cowboy."

LABOR DAY WEEKEND

SAMMY NEEDS A LOVING HOME

I know this newsletter is usually about all things swing... but one of my best childhood friends told me how she found a dog that was tied up to a fence with no food or water and a sign that read "Free Dog." Horrified, she and a friend rescued the dog and are now trying to find it a home. Maybe you know someone?

Here's the info:

Hi! People call me Sammy. I am a smart, sweet boxer/pit mix, about 50 pounds. I need a good foster or forever home. If you adopt me, you can give me a new name.

I was found tied up with no food or water in the corner of an empty parking lot. I had a sign that said “Free Dog.” Now, I have shots, a micro-chip, and I am spayed and housebroken. I am well-behaved, but need some training. I love people and dogs. I am friendly and good mannered when I visit the dog park. I have so much love to give, and I don’t want to go back to the shelter or die. My foster mom can’t keep me anymore. If you are ready to be a responsible, loving owner, please help me.

Thanks, Sammy’s Team

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!
