1920's Charleston

"Charleston, charleston
Made in Carolina
Some dance, some prance
I'll say better than finer
Than the charleston, charleston
Boy, how you can shuffle
Every step you do
Leads to something new
Man, I'm telling you
It's a lopazoo
Buck dance, wing dance
Will be a back number
But the charleston
The new charleston
That dance is surely a comer
Sometime
You'll dance it one time
That dance called the charleston
Made in South Caroline
Buck dance, wing dance
Will be a back number
But the charleston
The new charleston
That dance is surely a comer
Sometime
You'll dance it one time
That dance called the charleston
Made in South Caroline

~ composed in 1923,
with lyrics by Cecil Mack and music by James P. Johnson

SUMMERTIME SWING

I don't know about any of you, but this delightful summer beach weather we are having is a tonic for the soul. Our sunny skies, fresh air, summer breezes, fills one with energy and life. Add on swing dancing, and life is beautiful!

I started Lindy Hopping in 1996, which means over a decade of summer swing dance memories. Some happy memories include, dancing at a Stately Home in England on a 4th of July, dancing at night on the banks of the Seine in Paris, and, the one pictured here with Swedish Lindy Hopper, Calle Johansson, at Swing Camp Catalina some years ago. All of these memories make me sigh with happiness.

I know many of you are building your own "scrapbook" of memories this summer. Despite our "challenging" economic times, these still seem like simple and good times when we look at the basics of life, dance, and our dancing friends.

Have a great summer!

SPECIAL ON PRIVATE LESSONS WITH RUSTY

Have you ever wanted to take a private lesson with Rusty? It's one of the best ways to get a dancing "tune-up."

Normally $80/hour (for one or two people), there's now a special package:

          $80 for one lesson

          $75/ea for two lessons

          $70/ea for three lessons

Remember, you can share this lesson with another person. If you signed up for three lessons, they would only be $35 each! What a bargain.

Call me at 310 606 5606 to set yours up!

Where's Matt. You have probably already come across these wonderful clips on YouTube, but here is a nice article about how it all happened.

If, by some chance, you missed seeing the clip, here 'tis:

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!
