RUDY FLORES FIRST TO FILL UP HIS FREQUENT DANCER CARD
"I'M HERE FOR MY PLEASURE TREATMENT AND ANTI-AGING THERAPY"

Our sweetest Rhythm Club regular, Rudy Flores, was the very first dancer to fill up his "Dancing on Air - Frequent Dancer" card. Last week he collected his free pass to the club as we stamped his last of 10 spots on the card.

If you don't have a Dancing on Air card yet, make sure to pick one up next time you're at the club.

GIRLS! GET A NEW DANCE DRESS
HELP SOME SCHOOL KIDS

I love it when we can "use" our swing dancing to make the world a better place, and here's another delightful opportunity. This in from our Rhythm Club regular, Ava. Read on:

This week at the Rhythm Club, I'll be bringing some brand new and some worn-once dresses to sell, to raise money for needy children in the San Pedro public elementary school where I teach. With the State budget cuts, there are no funds to buy materials for the classroom, and there is no affluent PTA to fill the gap for these kids. Bring some cash, and buy a dress. Sizes range XS-M, and no dress is more than $20. Every penny will go to buy art supplies and books for a low-income 4th grade class in LAUSD. Thanks so much for your caring and help!

By the way, I showed them Groovie Movie in the classroom this week, and they absolutely loved it. Isn't it nice that something that was cute, funny and stylish in the 1940s still has the appeal? They are begging to watch it again.

Love,
Ava"

See you on the dance floor!

SWINGAPORE SHIM SHAM

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
