Battle of the DJs Follow all our swingin' activities
Our quote of the week really captures the spirit we all feel when we swing dance. No matter what happens in life in our own little world or the great world around us, we have our swing friends to keep our joy unconfined!
I guess it's just another thing I love about this dance.
And I know it must be something you feel, too, because I see your glowing smiles each week!
Every week, I receive emails from you letting me know what our little swing dance world brings into your lives. Here's one that really touched my heart:
Dear Rusty--With the loss of my wife Nancy, my best dance partner, after almost 50 years of marriage, I find the Rhythm Club provides me with a very friendly, upbeat, fun atmosphere for one who loves to dance. I have met many very enjoyable individuals. There are those I can learn from and those beginners who need help in the basics.
Thanks to all of you for making all our lives better!
THANKS TO OUR "BATTLING" DJS
ROBERT VANGOR (RHYTHM CLUB) AND DJ JOSE (MEMORIES)
We had a great time last Wednesday at our Battle of the DJs. Robert and Jose played wonderful music throughout the evening. I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, us dancers or the djs... they were glowing up there!
We are already making plans to do this again, first at Memories and then back at Rusty's Rhythm Club.
Thanks, fellows, for making it such a fun night. I now have even more "favorite songs"!
By the time you read this, I'll be in beautiful Vienna, Austria. I'll be travelling with my good friend, legendary choreographer, Miriam Nelson.
I often kid that I am an agent with only two clients -- and they are both women in their 80's. One is a familiar face on our swing scene, 84 year young Jean Veloz. Miriam is my other client -- and she's 89 years young!
Here's a little clip from our DVD "Play, Piano, Play"
Miriam and I are going to spend a couple of days in Vienna, getting on the European time zone and doing a lot of sightseeing; neither of us have been there before.
Then we are off to teach and perform for the weekend.
Stay tune in the next newsletter for word on the rest of my trip.
I'll be back on December 2, and meanwhile all the classes and nights at the Rhythm Club will be open for your dancing pleasure.
See you on the dance floor!
This a fun commercial for the "user friendly" cell phone for seniors. Some of our local Lindy Hoppers are featured!
You asked for it, you got it -- another "Routine's Class"! This is a brand new routine for us at Lindy By The Sea -- "Big John Special." Created by Jason Taylor and Patrick Fredrikson especially for the award-winning Hollywood Hornets team, the purpose of "Big John Special" was to become the new "Jeep Jockey Jump." The idea was the same, to have an outside structure, and solos to be created by the groups, themselves. If you've never done a routine (choreographed dance) before, come along -- you'll just LOVE it! The reason being is the order of moves is set, and you get time to really perfect these moves and your dance style. You also get the fun of working with a small group in creating a section of the dance.
THIS CLASS OPEN TO ALL LEVEL 3 AND UP
9:00 FEATURED CLASS "BON BON"
What's a Bon Bon? A tasty little treat. For us, it'll be all those moves out there that you would like to work on. Bring ideas to class and we'll teach 'em. We'll also have some ideas of our own. (Level 3 and up)
Did you know that any second class taken on the same day is 1/2 price? That's right. We put that discount there so that you could repeat classes and get great dance skills.
STUDENT & SENIOR DISCOUNTS
Yes, we do offer Student & Senior discounts. One series, which is normally $40, is only $36! Often asked: What is a Senior? 65 and up. (If you need a little discount, you're on a tight budget... we'll let you come in under the discount.)
TUESDAY PEOPLE TAKE ANY THURSDAY SERIES FOR $10
Yes, you read right! Tuesday students may retake any Thursday series for only $10 for the entire 4-weeks. We like to encourage our intermediate and advanced students to come back to Sundays, whether it be to review their basics or learn "the other side" (lead or follow).

WON'T YOU JOIN US?
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6
John Apodaca and his niece, Sharon Gonzales (who is Activity Coordinator at this facility) have arranged for us to dance at this facility. We have had an enthusiastic audience here and always have members of the "audience" join us in reliving their Swing Dance days.
Here is the scoop:
Downey Retirement Center
11500 Dolan Ave.
Downey, CA 90241
Sharon Gonzales, Activity Coordinator
Saturday, Dec. 6, '08, 2-3 PM
Current participants are being recruited by John and Scott but so far it is rumoured that:
John Apodaca, Scott Giordano, Debbie Wastling, Matt Bartley, Carol Hackett & Jessica Densmore will be there. I know there are more but John and Scott know who they are and we will update the participant list after we accomplish the Whitter Event this saturday.
RSVP and add yourself to the list - I am sure if you have time afterwards, John or Scott will have an idea of a local restaurant for us to meet and enjoy a pre-Holiday celebration.

Entertainment-Show.de: Since I am in Germany this week teaching and performing with the local Lindy & Tap dancers, I thought you would like to see what they're up to. You might even see some familiar faces.
what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian,
Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the
Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer
or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!
JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?
Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."
THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:
1. Having fun! (Fun)
2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)
1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).
2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.
The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
