DANIELLE COLE SAYS "GREETINGS" FROM COLLEGE
DANCE-A-THON 2009

Hey Rusty!!

How is everything in LA? I read the newsletters every week and I miss everyone so much. I was listening to my Phat Cat Swingers CD the other day and then I saw that they are coming to the club... let's just say that I was a little jealous.

But I'm having so much fun in Boston! And do you want to know the great news? I went swing dancing on Wednesday!! It was so fun. I was so excited. Everyone was really impressed with my dancing too. There are so many swing clubs around Boston. The group that I met up with goes out three times a week. I don't know if I'll be able to fit it in that much but I'll go at least once a week. It was just so nice to be dancing again!

The weather's not so great here right now but our gym has a lazy river so I think I'm going to grab an inner tube and lounge around for a while with some friends. Some family friends came to visit me and they asked if I was living at college or a country club, haha.

Also, I got an email from Shesha. They are starting to organize the danceathon again. We can't let our team fizzle out! It was so fun! So start asking around if anyone wants to be the team leader this year. It's not until March 14th but the sooner we start organizing the better. And I still have the banner and poster that we made so we can use that again. Now that we're started up, there's not as much for the leader to do. And I have the envelope with your money in it next to the banner in my closet (I just remembered that I forgot to give it to you before I left. So when I come back for Christmas, I can give you all of that stuff. But if you need the money before then, let me know and I can mail you a check. People can also email me if they have any questions about the danceathon.

I hope everything at the club is going well. I'm so jealous that I don't get to be an extra in the movie!!!!! If I had money, I would have been on a plane home just for that.

Give everyone my best and I'll see you at Christmas and talk to you soon!

Love,
Danielle

(For those of you who know me, you know how I lothe competing in anything... comes from a bad experience in 3rd grade.... what can I say?)

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
