Louis DaPron at The Hollywood Canteen

Lindy Hop, 8 Counts of Heaven

If you have never experienced the truly pure and unadulterated bliss of gliding over a wood floor with a confident and communicative partner, then you have not yet lived my friend!

Nothing compares to the feeling you get when the Jazz music is pulsing in the background as you swing out and in. Everything falls into place. It's like you find the reason for your existence.

Lindy Hop is the king of swing dancing

CONGRATS TO JAMIE!!!
CAMP HOLLYWOOD WIN
LINDY BY THE SEA HOLDS ITS CROWN!

Congratulations to our very own Jamie England for placing third in the Intergenerational Lindy Hop competition at the National Jitterbug Competition (Camp Hollywood). In this competition there must be a 30 year age difference between the dance partners. Jamie competed with Katharine Wyman.

This means that Lindy By The Sea has held the title for two years! (I won it last year).

Congrats also to Gio for competing and placing in countless categories, and to all from our gang who did so well.

We're proud of you all!

CALLE COMING TO THE RHYTHM CLUB TOMORROW

Our favorite Swede is coming to the Rhythm Club tomorrow night. Make sure to get there and reserve your dance with him gals. For the guys, you'll want to keep an eye on him all night -- he's just one of the most fun dancers we know. He has the true spirit of the lindy hop!

And, maybe if we're real nice, we can get him to sing an Elvis song for us!

See you on the dance floor!

Hi Rusty,

My name is Terri I am Tamie Hall's sister. Byron Thompson gave me your web site so I could send a thank you. I wanted to send a heartfelt thanks to all of Tamie's dance buds. She loved dancing so much and a lot had to do with the people. I was so touched by the help, the music, after service set up, making of the flower arrangements. Lots of flowers were sent,I saw flowers from MG Kelly that were beautiful. Thank you Byron, Faye, Robert, Julie, Shelia, June and Glen I know you and to those I don't know who came to Tamie's service, thank you. She talked about so many of you I would only know by name. She had a favorite bar man who she gave a shirt to. The few times I went with Tamie dancing, I loved watching her. She was so happy. I could tell how much she was loved by all of you.

Thank you again,

Terri Malloy

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
