Last year, at Camp Hollywood, I met four fabulous Italians. It turned out that they have my instructional dvds, and watch them all the time, learning tap dancing and building on their Lindy Hop. When we met, we just hit it off great. We danced, we laughed, we had a great time.
Then I saw two of them perform in the showcase, and I was completely blown away! It was one of the most fantastic acts I'd ever seen. And I wasn't the only one. The entire Camp Hollyood crowd jump to their feet, stomping, applauding, screaming. I honestly think that if I had known how great they were when I first met them, I would have been too dumb struck to say a word!
They won the showcase, and they won everyone's hearts.
Check out the Clip of the Week -- it's the same routine... with two couples.
Sometime later, I got an email from Silvia (pictured lower right), inviting me to teach at their big Swing, Brother, Swing Festival.
By the time you read this, I'm probably exhausted and exhilarated from the weekend. Make sure to check out the Link of the Week... as it's the weekend schedule and description. It's quite something... let me put it this way, Frankie Manning was there!
KEEP IT GOING WHILE I'M GONE!
"Rah! Rah! Rah!" It's me, again, your #1 Swing Cheerleader, giving you the pep talk to go out dancing at the Rhythm Club. We got Robert "The Professor" Vangor DJing an entire evening for your listening and dancing pleasure!
And at the end of the night, you can all join in and say, "This is us, at Rusty's Rhythm Club, wishing you all good days, good nights, good luck, and.... good dances, until we meet again. See you next week!"
See you on the dance floor!

what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian,
Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the
Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer
or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!
JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?
Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."
THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:
1. Having fun! (Fun)
2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)
1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).
2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.
The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
