Now that the Decade of Dance is fantastic memory for us all, it's time to continue building new memories! Next ON our list of fun is this weekend's Balboa Workshop (click HERE for details) with me and Ron. Don't miss this crash course -- two workshops in one -- for beginners with me in one room and intermediates on up with Ron in the other.
For those of you still on the fence about the upcoming sensational Balboa Rendezvous (our Link of the Week), this will definitely inspire you not to miss it.
RUSTY'S DECADE OF DANCE CELEBRATION
ONE MORE HAPPY MEMORY
Just before the party, Jon Moody, Nancy Niparko, Teresa London, and Roscoe Farnsworth sent out emails to their friends encouraging everyone to bring one flower to me at the event. And, boy howdy, did I get flowers!!! The great part was that it was a total surprise, and I'll never forget the moment when about twenty people came in all at once handing me their flower(s) one after another! Soon us organizers were dashing for vases to put all these flowers in, then people started arriving with flowers and vases! It was wild! All these flowers meant so much to me -- there's just something about receiving flowers on special occasions, and to receive flowers from so many people, well, it's just the best.
As I looked at the table getting filled to the top with flowers, I thought, "I haven't seen this many flowers since 2000 when I broke my neck and was in the hospital... and this is a LOT more fun!!!!
Thank you, Jon Moody, Nancy Niparko, Teresa London, and Roscoe Farnsworth for arranging it all!
See you on the dance floor!

RUBY'S DINER -- GOOD SHEPERD SHELTER FUNDRAISER
APRIL 12TH 5-9PM
"FUN & PHILANTHROPY!"
We are doing a fundraiser at Ruby's in Redondo Beach on Sat Apr 12 from 5pm - 9pm for the Good Shepherd Shelter. We will not have a repeat of the last time as this is truly our thing.
I need some dancers to dance outside for however long you want to. I will have the music set up and the space. Please let me know if you can come out. Even if for just 15 min it will add to the night.
Please print the flyer and bring it with you or email it along. Everyone needs to have the flyer to present to the waiter/waitress and then 20% of the bill will go to the Shelter. We can not pass the flyer out when there but I will have a few laying around just in case someone forgets theirs.
You can come and dance a bit, eat a bit and then go to other venues the same night. I will be there all night.
Please let me know if you can dance and what time. It will be fun night and hopefully we can raise lots of money for the Shelter. They have been so surprised with what we have done so far, so lets mark our calendars and raise lots of money.
I will also have flyers at different venues if you want to pick them up there. Pass them out to all your friends and family.
Thanks for always being there and helping to make our fundraisers so much fun as well as benefiting those in need.

what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian,
Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the
Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer
or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!
JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?
Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."
THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:
1. Having fun! (Fun)
2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)
1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).
2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.
The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
