JIVES HIT TOWN
THE FATBURGERS' MYSTERY
Yes, these guys are really nuts (the kind of nuts we just love). Not only do they wear bright yellow suits, jump all over the stage...
It's actually in their contract with me that I have to take them to dinner at Fatburgers.
What can I say? They are just too much fun!
Last night we met up at the historic Hollywood haunt, The Formosa Cafe, and had a great time looking at the over 200 celebrity photos on the wall. When they walked me to my car, I noticed the Route 66 sign and just had to take this picture (honestly, it was hard to hold them back on this one!).

24 HOUR DANCE-A-THON
I'm Danielle Cole. Joseph Rocamora and I are putting together a Rhythm Club/Lindy By the
Sea team for a 24 hour Cancer Dance-a-thon March 8th
and 9th. All of the money raised goes to City of Hope
Hospital to help fight Cancer.
Our team is called "Rusty's Rhythm Club Gates."
You can read all about the event HERE.
We need one person on the dance floor participating at
all times. The activities on the dance floor will
range from DJ'd music, dance lessons, live music, and
contests. You don't have to stay for the whole time
but of course it's great if you can. It's $50 to
participate but the idea is that you ask friends and
family to sponsor you.
For our "uniform" we're planning on wearing our Rhythm
Club/Lindy by the Sea bowling shirts so if you don't
have one already, contact Ji Han to place your order. (see below)
Thanks to everyone for helping out, it should be a lot
of fun, and if you have any question or would like to
join, email me at email@example.com or Joseph
at firstname.lastname@example.org And for more
information or to register to join Rusty's Rhythm Club
Gates, go to danceathon.org
Thanks a lot!

FROM YOUR PHILANTHROPY COORDINATOR
January of '08 is flying by and we have our first Event of the year
scheduled on Saturday, February 9, 2008, from 2-3 PM at
Earlwood Care Center
20820 Earl street
Joy Jackson, Activity Coordinator
We visited this facility in April of last year and although many
residents have some pretty cumbersome physical disabilities, they
always make their enthusiasm known, and the staff often peeks in to
see what's going on. (This is the facility where one patient's heart
monitor went off; luckily it turned out to be a machine malfunction-
it got OUR attention!) Both Joy, the Activity Coordinator, and
resident Marie (dancer Jamie's mom) have been asking when we will be
back, so if you have this particular saturday free, please let us

24 HR CANCER DANCE-A-THON The Dance-a-thon is a 24 hour swing dance in Orange County, CA intended to raise funds for the City of Hope Hospital. All of the participants, board members, bands, teachers, dj's and performers are volunteers. The dates are 10 a.m. Saturday March 8th - 11 a.m. Sunday March 9th, 2008 (daylight savings occurs that weekend! Spring forward!)
The 1st year swing dancers raised over $52,000, an impressive number for any first year charity event. Year 2 we doubled it crossing the $100,000 mark. The year our goal is $150,000! Thats a lot of effort on your part, so start early :-)
what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian,
Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the
Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer
or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!
JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?
Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."
THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:
1. Having fun! (Fun)
2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)
1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).
2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.
The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
