We had a wonderful 1st month of 2008 for swing dancing. Our "New Years Resolution Class" (those Level 1-ers) had a ball, and so did we. Look for them this week at the Rhythm Club... they said they were going to come and try it out. (I've posted some new picture of them and you HERE.)
Our February series starts this coming Sunday, and, yes, we know it's Super Bowl Sunday. So if you have to miss the first day of class, no worries, come along the second week; we promise to review everything. Definitely don't wait until March. Keep dancing in your life. You have to admit, it is one of the most joyful activities you can do!
I'm so excited about our upcoming special dances at "Rusty's Rhythm Club". We've got The Jive Aces from the U.K. on February 6th. Then our delightful Valentine's Dance featuring the Fabulous Esquires on February 13th. Then (can you believe there's more?) The Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra for our 10 Year Anniversary Party -- "A Decade of Dance."
Make sure to mark your calendars for these happy events.
THE BILL ELLIOTT DANCE WILL SELL OUT

Several of our regulars entered, including Ricardo Barron and Bill Nye, and they did VERY well.
Next time we have to get some of our girls in there. Maybe it's time for a Jill and Jack at the Rhythm Club? Start practicing.

FROM YOUR PHILANTHROPY COORDINATOR JESSICA DENSMORE
January of '08 is flying by and we have our first Event of the year
scheduled on saturday, february 9, 2008, from 2-3 PM at
Earlwood Care Center
20820 Earl street
Joy Jackson, Activity Coordinator
We visited this facility in April of last year and although many
residents have some pretty cumbersome physical disabilities, they
always make their enthusiasm known, and the staff often peeks in to
see what's going on. (This is the facility where one patient's heart
monitor went off; luckily it turned out to be a machine malfunction-
it got OUR attention!) Both Joy, the Activity Coordinator, and
resident Marie (dancer Jamie's mom) have been asking when we will be
back, so if you have this particular saturday free, please let us
what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian,
Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the
Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer
or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!
JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?
Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."
THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:
1. Having fun! (Fun)
2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)
1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).
2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.
The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
