IT'S SO GREAT, YA JUST GOTTA COME BACK!
Over the years, people come and go through our doors. Each year, I get to witness how hard this "Lindy Habit" is to break, as former students return on their own or with friends and family.
This week at Rusty's Rhythm Club, two of our original students, Scott & Cheryll will be visiting from New York. Thought you might want to read their nice note. Keep an eye out for Scott and Cheryll, and make sure to ask them for a dance!
Happy New Year Rusty,
And a Happy 10th Anniversary Year- celebrate all year long! Big
congratulations to you and all the bands, dancers, entertainers,
instructors, dj's and volunteers that have made LBS & RC the enduring
success that it is.
I wish you another 10 years (yes! Please do!) and
beyond! I'm so glad that I can say I was there in the early days with
LBS. Ahhh the good ol' days at the Neptunian Women's club when Scott &
I only were only a 3 minute walk away. That was truly awesome! And of
course all the time in Hermosa as well!
Just wanted to let you know that we're coming to CA and we'll both be
dancing at the RC on Jan.16th. We look forward to seeing you and
catching dances with you all.
Cheryll & Scott
DON'T MISS THEM!
We've got 'em this time around, and you won't want to miss out on their great show at Rusty's Rhythm Club. These guys put on one of the most high energy shows you'll ever get to see. Let's pack the joint!
See you on the dance floor!

SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB REPORTS
Review of Downey Event, Dec.8,'07
Performing at this facility is always special as the residents are
very enthusiastic and love to join in the dancing. Scott and John
(John's niece, Sharon Gonzales, is Activity Coordinator here) were
in charge of this program last year at Christmas time and were
available to do a Christmas program again this year.
Participants included Scott Giordano and John Apodaca (who planned
the Event from start to finish, including music and script), Stephen
Smith (wife Michelle's grandma is a resident here),"Fons" (who
loves to DJ), Reetha Garretty, Henri Kaplan, Julie Voce, Elaine Dee,
Kitty Reddy, Rita Catanzarite, Teresa Nutley, Susie McLeod.
The gents were busy keeping the ladies dancing to Christmas swing
tunes, and did get help from some dancers in the audience, who
just couldn't stay still in their seats. We even got some advice
on how to take care of classic '50s and '60s cars from one of the
You just never know what will happen at these Events. See you soon!
Review of Belmont Village Assisted Event, Dec. 15, '07
Debbie Wastling scheduled, recruited, wrote and narrated the script,
selected the music, and drove some of us to the Event. Wow!
The Christmas Swing Dance Program included the following participants:
Debbie Wastling, Matt Batley, June Mikrut, Ron Parker, Alice Infelise,
Dan Danner, Rita Catanzarite, Tony Mercuro, Teresa London, John Apodaca,
Norm Kajikawa (who posted photos of the Event on Photo section of this
site). Residents Anna and John were featured; it was Anna's birthday
so June was her substitute (she cannot walk) for her Birthday dance,
and John just decided to join in and ask the ladies to dance. John
joined in the Ballroom and Latin dances as well as the Christmas
Swing selections featured in this program. Residents, many of whom
cannot walk, showed their appreciation with clapping and toe tapping,
one resident even forgetting that she was waiting for her family and
joining in the applause after each selection. After the program, Tony,
charming the ladies as always, was approached by one of the ladies
for a special dance, while her therapist held her walker for her.
No one can resist Tony!
Thanks to all the participants this past year, especially Scott,
John, Debbie, Teresa and Norman for taking charge of recruiting,
scripts, music and photos, making my "job" easier...I just get
PS Both Debbie Wastling and Cathryn "Captain Fun" Sayre already have
events in planning stages. Plan to attend if you can!

what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian,
Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the
Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer
or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!
JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?
Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."
THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:
1. Having fun! (Fun)
2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)
1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).
2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.
The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
