HOLIDAY PARTY THIS WEDNESDAY!
TOMORROW NITE
DECEMBER 19, 2007

The Fabulous Esquires
MC Maxwell DeMille
& YOU
Formal Attire! Let's really dress up

As part of our Rhythm Club tradition, our annual Holiday Party is "formal". That's right, you can dress up as much as you want... gowns, tails, tuxedos, or just nice and dressy. In this casual Los Angeles culture, it's nice to have an excuse to really dress up.

RUSTY'S 2007 THANK YOU LIST

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR MAKING OUR SWING DANCE SCENE SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE!

All throughout the year I am so grateful for what we have here in the South Bay -- one of the friendliest swing dance scenes I've ever seen. Of course, it's because of your spirit... how you always welcome newcomers, how you have the social dancing "spirit", how there is always a smile on your face on that dance floor, and how we always have such fun.

THANKS TO MY RHYTHM PALS!
GIOVANNI QUINTERO & RON CAMPBELL

FIVE YEARS WITH LINDY BY THE SEA!

Gio & Ron add beyond description to our Lindy By The Sea program.

Gio's boundless enthusiasm makes every Sunday an absolute joy-ride for our new students. His ongoing presence at the Rhythm Club, dancing with all the followers and kidding around with all the leaders, makes him a real pal!

Ron's true partnership in developing our Tuesday nite programs, The Track and The Master Track, have brought a new level of instruction to Lindy By The Sea. His ability to clearly and intelligently break down all sorts of moves, and the specific mechanics of what makes the moves work, is something treasured by all.

Both of these gentlemen of swing have made my life such a pleasure. Something that might become tedious (teaching triple step, triple step, rock step for the umpteenth time) is always such fun with these guys around!

Thank you, Ron & Gio, for your spirit and your friendship.

ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS!

I know I could never run Lindy By The Sea and Rusty's Rhythm Club without the tremendous help of all the volunteers who pitch right in. From you students who help set up and breakdown Rebekah Hall each week to all those at the Rhythm Club who make sure things run smoothly. Some of them you know and some of them are hidden beyond the scenes... but all of you make all of this crazy stuff possible!

Jessica Densmore, for always being there at Lindy By The Sea helping and at the Rhythm Club as a regular "Door Stop".

Robert "The Professor" Vangor, our amazing Rhythm Club "House DJ" who keeps us all dancing to the best of swing music from his tremendous collection

Maxwell DeMille, for adding his special brand of pep as our special guest Master of Ceremonies.

Stanley Sheff, our amazing web host and designer.

Peter Livingston, our "Door Stop Captain" who also helps set up the Rhythm Club each week.

Cathryn Sayre "Captain Fun" and all her "Funsters", for making sure birthdays are always taken care of at the Rhythm Club.

Jon Moody, for always being there to help us break down the Rhythm Club each week.

Michael Klein "The Rhythm Roadie", helping with set up and breakdown of the Rhythm Club sound system each week.

Ji Han, for coming on board this year with all her enthusiasm and making our new web videos and fronting 2008's 10 Year Anniversary Party.

Mark Barclay, for heading up the Bowling Shirt Campaign, and being co-chair of 2008's 10 Year Anniversary Party.

Tamie Mancini for being a terrific assistant in my office for over half this year.

Swing Shift Rhythm Club All our volunteers who bring joy and happiness to those in hospitals and senior homes. And a special thanks to Jessica & Capt Fun for organizing all these events!

Door Stops, there are so many of you who sit at that Rhythm Club door to greet everyone... sometimes just for a minute, sometimes for much more...

USC Swing Dance Club, All the officers and enthusiasts for getting college students excited about swing dancing... and getting them out on the dance floor!

All those at Rebekah Hall and the Elks Lodge, you always make us feel welcome and provide us with such a homey and friendly environ in which to dance.

Everyone(!) I have forgotten to name here!

AND, OF COURSE, ALL THE GREAT BANDS!

Just in case you can't remember,
here's a list of all the bands that played at the Rhythm Club in 2007!

LET'S MAKE 2008 AS GREAT AS 2007!
SEND THOSE BEGINNERS OUR WAY

We had hundreds of new dancers come through our Sunday Lindy By The Sea beginner classes. Let's keep swing dancing going strong. Send your friends, family, and co-workers our way for beginner classes. We love the January classes, which we fondly call our "New Year's Resolution Class." We already have quite an enrollment... so keep 'em comin'!

FEATURED CLASS JANUARY 2008

You asked for it, you got it -- another "Routine's Class"! This is a brand new routine for us at Lindy By The Sea -- "Big John Special." Created by Jason Taylor and Patrick Fredrikson especially for the award-winning Hollywood Hornets team, the purpose of "Big John Special" was to become the new "Jeep Jockey Jump." The idea was the same, to have an outside structure, and solos to be created by the groups, themselves.

If you've never done a routine (choreographed dance) before, come along -- you'll just LOVE it! The reason being is the order of moves is set, and you get time to really perfect these moves and your dance style. You also get the fun of working with a small group in creating a section of the dance.

If you are Level 3 and up, you definitely wont want to miss this class!

JANUARY-FEBRUARY MASTER TRACK ENROLLMENT FULL

Take your dancing to the next level!

We are completely full for the first Master Track of the year. If you are interested in holding a spot for you in the March-April Master Track EMAIL us.

Master Track info click HERE.

LOVELYNN & DEREK VISITING

Two of our great Lindy By The Sea friends from "back in the day" are visiting us this Wednesday at the Rhythm Club! Lovelynn took over classes for me when I broke my neck back in 2000, and Lovelynn & Derek were part of the "home support team" who kept me going during that rough time. Make sure you track them down and get a dance -- they are both quite wonderful on and off the dance floor.

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
