I do not try to dance better than anyone else.
I only try to dance better than myself.

1950'S NITE - JUNE 20TH
Yes, that's right, it's time for another theme night at the Rhythm Club. Since we've got the fabulous Neil Morrow band Wednesday, we thought it would be fun to match his 1950's style by dressing up in the era ourselves.
LEVEL 2 COMES TO THE RHYTHM CLUB
LET'S HAVE A ROUSING WELCOME!
This Wednesday, our Level 2 class will be coming to the club en masse, many of them for the very first time. So, remember, put on your "angel wings" and get them out on the dance floor as much as possible. You'll know them -- they'll have that same expression you had when you first came to the club -- excitement, wonder, and nervousness!
HAWAIIAN NITE - JUNE 27TH
Big Band Nite -- The Esquires
Next week, let's go Hawaiian! Wednesday, June 27th we've got The Esquires, and if you can't actually be in Hawaii, the next best thing is to imagine it's so by evoking the isles with the best in Hawaiian attire.
CLOSED FOR THE 4TH OF JULY

FRANKIE MANNING SIGNS HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY AT
PBDA'S HARVEST MOON SWING OUT LAST FRIDAY
PBDA's done it again -- a fantastic Harvest Moon Swingout! Kenneth & Helena were on hand teaching classes (all the way from Sweden!), and Frankie Manning was the very special guest. At age 93, he was his same vibrant self -- leading the Shim Sham, signing his new book "Frankie Manning, Ambassador of Lindy Hop."
To top off the fun Friday nite dance, they had a Jack and Jill contest. And what fun it was! Joseph snapped a couple pictures of me with my clipboard, judging. Other judges included: Minn Vo, Steve & Heidi, Helena, Sailor Mike.
Take a look at the scrapbook.
LET'S SWING OUT AT RUBY'S!
Hi all Swing Dancers -
Ruby's Diner in Redondo Beach wants Swing Dancers every Fri for about 1hr.
It would be from approx 6pm/6:30pm till 7:30pm. They have a classic car show
with a DJ from 5pm - 830pm.
They want us to Swing Dance inside and then a little outside with the DJ and
50's music. They would like us starting this Fri thru the summer till Sep
28. We will get paid in food coupons and certificates.
I realize this is long period of time so I can do a sign up sheet. Even if
you can only commit for a few of those weekends it would be great. I think
3-4 couples would be great each Friday if possible. There is still time for
you to go out dancing afterwards.
I was also thinking that instead of keeping the food coupons/certificates we
could collect them and donate to a Shelter for Abused families.
Please EMAIL me to let me know if your are interested.
Thanks so much for doing what we love and giving to the community.

GROOVIE MOVIE WEEKEND -- Take a gander at the event at which Rusty & Gio will be teaching this coming weekend.
what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian,
Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the
Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer
or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!
JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?
Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."
THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:
1. Having fun! (Fun)
2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)
1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).
2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.
The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
