GREAT NEWS
WE'VE GOT ANOTHER LEAD!

Robert "Robbie" Logan Campbell was born June 2, 2007 7:40am, 6lb 10oz
to Ron & Robin Campbell.

"Robbie" Robert Logan Campbell just couldn't wait until his due date (June 15) for his first dance, and arrived two weeks early. Both mom and pop are doing well, and big brother, Ryan is thrilled with his new little brother.

If you would like to bring a card or gift to class or the Rhythm Club, I would be happy to deliver it to Ron & Robin.

RUSTY'S BELGIUM AND CZECH ADVENTURE!

I stopped off in Belgium first, to get over jet lag before teaching in the Czech Republic. It also gave me a chance to catch up with my dear friend, Lieven Debrauwer. Lieven is an award winning filmmaker, and so popular in Belgium, that he is recognized everywhere there. (You can read about him HERE.) Lieven was a tremendous host and took me all over Belgium. We went to Brussels, Gent, Antwerp, and Brugge. What a time!

I've posted a SCRAPBOOK so you can see some of the things I saw.

Then it was off to the Czech Republic for a weekend of teaching and performing, and then a week of sightseeing in this amazing country. I was brought there by Zdenek Pilecky, the founder of Zig Zag in Prague. He's a bundle of non-stop energy who seems to be solely responsible for Lindy Hop in Prague. He's got a great performance troupe who dance equally well tap and swing!

Here was my schedule:

Wednesday, May 23

Arrived in Prague
1940's Glamour Workshop

Thursday, May 24

Siteseeing in Prague with Zdenek
Press conference for Tap Day (May 25) at American Embassy
Clip Presentation of tap and swing

Friday, May 25

I took a nice walk in the Nature Reserve (across the street from my bed and breakfast!)
Tap Day performance. This was great fun to see all the local tap groups
Pizza party after

Saturday, May 26

All day tap workshop (phew!)
Swing Dance, with show

Sunday, May 27

All day swing workshop (oy!)
Pizza Party with students
Collapse

Monday, May 28 - May 31

My cousin Bryan Torfeh arrives in Prague and we spend the next four days siteseeing throughout Prague, see four shows (including "Singin' in the Rain" in Czech!), and do plenty of walking, eating, walking eating, eating, walking...

Wednesday, May 30

Have lunch with famous animator Gene Deitch
Dinner with Frankie Manning & Judy Pritchett!!! (who were there for a workshop outside of Prague the following weekend)
Swing Party -- where get to join Frankie in leading the Shim Sham! (wow!)

Friday, June 1

I take a tour to Karlovy Vary
Get together with Czech swing band leader Ondrej Havelka (Ondrej Havelka and His Melody Makers)-- what a treat (I've been a fan for years!)

LET'S SWING OUT AT RUBY'S!

Hi all Swing Dancers -

Ruby's Diner in Redondo Beach wants Swing Dancers every Fri for about 1hr. It would be from approx 6pm/6:30pm till 7:30pm. They have a classic car show with a DJ from 5pm - 830pm.

They want us to Swing Dance inside and then a little outside with the DJ and 50's music. They would like us starting this Fri thru the summer till Sep 28. We will get paid in food coupons and certificates.

I realize this is long period of time so I can do a sign up sheet. Even if you can only commit for a few of those weekends it would be great. I think 3-4 couples would be great each Friday if possible. There is still time for you to go out dancing afterwards.

I was also thinking that instead of keeping the food coupons/certificates we could collect them and donate to a Shelter for Abused families. Please EMAIL me to let me know if your are interested.

Thanks so much for doing what we love and giving to the community.

SEASIDE BALL! -- It's just two weeks away, and we'll all be there, come along and join us! This is one of our great local events.

Swing Shift
www.rustyfrank.com

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.

"How do I join?"...
Right now, fill in your email address
and click the Yahoo log (that's it!):
