November 28TH 2006
Dance is like life, it exists as you're flitting through it,
and when it's over, it's done.
DANCE THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS!
DECEMBER WORKSHOP -- "TASTE OF DANCE"
It's been far too long since we offered our "Taste of Dance" workshop, and we thought it would be a perfect way to end 2006! In this workshop, we teach a "taste" of popular Ballroom dances, such as Cha Cha, Foxtrot, Salsa, Polka, and Waltz. Next time a non-swing song comes on, you'll know what to do!
This workshop will be taught by all three Rhythm Pals -- Rusty, Gio, AND Ron!

THE HOLLYWOOD COMBO AT THE RHYTHM CLUB
We thought you would enjoy some good live music to keep you dancing through the holidays, when it can get a little, shall we say, "hectic" and "stressful." So rather than our traditional DJ nite on the first Wednesday of the month in December, we've got LIVE MUSIC for you with The Hollywood Combo.
ORDER DEADLINES FOR SHIPPING
If you are thinking of getting a holiday gift for someone, and you need us to ship it, make sure you get your order in by December 8th. This will make sure we have enough time to get the gift out for arrival by Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza... Gift ideas are further down in the newsletter. Happy shopping! BENNY GOODMAN & FOXTROTTERS!
Click on the TV
to see our Clip Of The Week!
Thanks to our "Frenchy" student, Yves, we have this great clip of Benny Goodman playing for some Foxtrotters! This is wonderful live footage from the 1940s (not from a movie).
Anyone know anything about this one, such as the where and the when of it?
GET OUT OF THAT CHAIR!!
Don't let this happen to you, when you could be dancing!
As the holidays approach, make sure you don't cut out your exercise and fun! We have one last series for you before the new year, and it's just around the corner.

STREETSWING -- HISTORY OF THE FOXTROT -- Here's a site that will keep you happily busy for hours. It's filled with historical information about dances -- such as the Kangaroo Hop, the Bunnyhug, The Castle Walk, and one of our upcoming workshop dances -- The Foxtrot.
what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian,
Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the
Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer
or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!
JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?
Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."
THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:
1. Having fun! (Fun)
2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)
1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).
2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.
The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
