Music and poetry exist in time;
painting and architecture in space.
But the dance lives at once in time and space. "

NOVEMBER -- ANOTHER GREAT MONTH OF SWING DANCE ACTIVITIES!

AERIALS WORKSHOP -- NOVEMBER 19TH -- 11AM-1PM
PRE-REGISTER HERE

Yes, our Aerials Workshop is just around the corner. This workshop is billed as "Intermediate": Two of the aerials, The Bocker and the Helicopter, are truly an intermediate level, and two, the Frog and the Uberfrog, can be done by beginners, as well. You must have a partner for the workshop.

This is always one of the most exciting activities we offer throughout the year.

Aerials involve some electrifying acrobatic moves, including partnered lifts, throws, flips, and slides, that really give Lindy Hop that extra kick in performances and jam circles!

Click HERE for full Aerials Workshop details and registration.

MORE THEME NITES AHEAD AT THE RHYTHM CLUB!

NOV 15 -- 1930'S-'40'S DRESSY

Everyone has been screaming for more theme nites at the club, so let's do another one on November 15th, when Dean Mora's is on stage. Since his is rather a classy vintage band, let's go 1930's-1940s dressy.

'50'S NITE - NOVEMBER 22!

1950's Nite at the Rhythm Club -- with Neil Morrow and His Memphis '54!

This in from Norman (and a hearty "I agree!"):

Hi Rusty,

Neil Morrow and Memphis 54 Thanksgiving Eve, November 22nd. In the past you have been dark on this night, and a lot of us have had to scramble for a place to go to and dance. I am glad you are having Neil back and are open that night.

How about a Holiday-Good ol Rock & Roll, 50's night. Any one of the above or combination would be nice. It would be fun to dress up accordingly, or come as your favorite 50's singer or movie star. i.e. Johnny Cash, James Dean, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Patsy Cline, etc.etc.

This idea is pretty far out, but an added benefit of promising to burn at least 300-600 calories/aerobic and or weight loss prior to the Thanksgiving feast, if everyone danced most if not all of the dances that night. As you know, Neil plays a lot of high energy songs, and sometimes plays tunes one right after another without a break.

Thanks,

Norman

If you have some ideas for theme nites, email 'em on over to me at info@rustyfrank.com.

"A TAP TRIBUTE TO JAZZ"
FEATURING YOURS TRULY!

Saturday, November 18, 2006 -- 8pm

I'M GONNA BE HOOFIN' WITH A TAP-LEGEND!

Many of you know that tap dancing was my first dance (started when I was little 6-year old). I don't get that many l local opportunities to perform in shows that are open to the public, but here's one right in our neck of the woods -- Santa Monica.

I'll be dancing with one of my tap dance heroes (and legends) -- Miriam Nelson. Miriam has appeared in six Broadway shows, starting in 1939!, going on to a tremendous career as Hollywood choreographer (she even choreographed the opening day of Disneyland and two Oscar shows!).

Miriam and I will be performing in the Saturday show only (as I have to teach classes on Sunday afternoon). I sure hope some of you can make it.

All the proceeds go to benefit the Los Angeles Jazz Society's Mentorship Program. So have fun and do a good deed!

LINDY HOP FOR LIFE - DANCE-A-THON -- The Dance-a-thon is a 24 hour swing dance in Irvine, CA intended to raise funds for the City of Hope Hospital. All of the participants, board members, bands, teachers, dj's and performers are volunteers. The venue is donated by the Boys and Girls Club of Irvine. The dates are 10am Saturday Nov. 11th - 10am Sunday Nov. 12th, 2006

Last year swing dancers raised over $52,000, an impressive number for any first year charity event. This year our goal is $100,000.

We've got loads of dancers participating, and yours truly is teaching one of the classes -- "Tap Dancing For Lindy Hoppers".

We are also be doing a bit of fundraising at the Rhythm Club Wednesday, October 18th, for the Dance-A-thon. (Stay tuned for more details.)

Swing Shift

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
