WHAT IS THE MASTER TRACK?

Rusty and Ron now have a series for those who want to take their dancing to the next level. The course, entitled "The Master Track - It's All About You" is limited to twelve students. The June-July series is fully booked, but we are already taking reservations for September-October.

The eight-week course focuses on your own dancing. Each week, Rusty and Ron will be working with each of the students individually and as a group in a series of exercises and challenges. The students will be video taped each week, the tapes will be studied as a group (in Lindy By The Sea's traditional upbeat, encouraging, and friendly environment) to examine individual areas of goals and progress. At the end of the eight week course, each student is presented with a dvd of their own dancing to track improvement and continue with on-going skills.

This course will start up every eight weeks. The total cost for all eight classes, and the dvd is $100/per student, and includes a personal dvd of your work throughout the course. What a value!

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18
CANCER RESEARCH FUN-RAISER

WITH GUEST HOST -- MAXWELL DEMILLE!

Doing our bit to join in on the 24-Hour Dance-A-Thon, we hosted a Fun-Raiser at the Rhythm Club. We want to thank all those who helped organize the fun-raiser and who worked hard before, during, and after the event to help raise another $500 for City of Hope. LINDY HOP FOR LIFE - DANCE-A-THON -- The Dance-a-thon is a 24 hour swing dance in Irvine, CA intended to raise funds for the City of Hope Hospital. All of the participants, board members, bands, teachers, dj's and performers are volunteers. The venue is donated by the Boys and Girls Club of Irvine. The dates are 10am Saturday Nov. 11th - 10am Sunday Nov. 12th, 2006

Last year swing dancers raised over $52,000, an impressive number for any first year charity event. This year our goal is $100,000.

We've got loads of dancers participating, and yours truly is teaching one of the classes -- "Tap Dancing For Lindy Hoppers".

We are also be doing a bit of fundraising at the Rhythm Club Wednesday, October 18th, for the Dance-A-thon. (Stay tuned for more details.)

Check it out! Make the world a better place through swing dancing!

UKES FOR TROOPS -- Some of you may know that Rusty & Ron have been learning the ukulele for the past year. Through their class they became aware of an amazing organization -- Ukes For Troops. Take a look, take a read. Another example of how music and dance can help bring around peace.

This background from Ukes For Troops founder is quite touching:

"The response from the troops and their families has been over whelming. We have received many pictures and emails from the units who receive the ukulele.. They told us how they go to sleep at night with the sound of the ukuleles and wake up to the sound of them. The Iraqis love hearing them play and even come into to compound so that they can listen to this strange new instrument. Some of the Iraqi soldiers that are being training have even asked to be taught how to play the ukulele themselves."

OUR VERY OWN WILL RYAN'S UKULELE "ANTHEM"

IF EVERYBODY PLAYED THE UKULELE

If everybody played the ukulele
Imagine all the happiness there'd be
Peace and joy would reign
And no one would complain

If everybody played the ukulele
It doesn't take a genius to forsee
We'd be harmoniously linked
So war would be extinct

If everybody played the ukulele

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
