ON THE ROAD AGAIN - SUNNY SPAIN

Hope you are all doing well! By the time you read this newsletter, I've made my way down to Spain to visit one of my homelands (my family fled in 1492 because of an episode called "The Inquisition"). I've never been to Spain before, so you can imagine how thrilled I was when two Lindy Hoppers I had met years ago in Sweden at the Herrang Dance Camp invited me to stay with them for a bit.

Their names are Ana & Patxi and here's the email in which they first invited me:

Ana & Patxi

Do you think possible to come here for that week between France and Oslo? It would be fantastic because the whole week (from 14th to 20th August) are the local festivities at San Sebastian. We both will be very happy to invite you to our home and to show you our place. We will be on holidays so we could spend the whole day going touring roung the place. How does it sound? :o)

Think about it ;o)

All our best,

Patxi and Ana

Well, you know I didn't have to think about it long! I'll make sure to take lots of pictures and make a nice photo album upon my return.

Meanwhile, keep on dancing!

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR KEEPIN' IT SWINGIN'!

Once again, thanks in to everyone who helps keep things going in my absence. It's so great to know that our scene can roll right along when I'm the road! Thanks to Ron, for teaching the Tuesday nite classes (and it's not too late to join! Just show up, he'll register you). Thanks to all the Rhythm Club volunteers for keeping that night going: Jessica, Capt Fun, Julia, Peter, Nathan & Crystal "The Sweethearts of Swing", Robert "The Professor" Vangor, Mike, Jon, Jamie, Sharlene... and anyone else who pitches in.

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING CLASSES AND THE RHYTHM CLUB WHILE I'M GONE!!

We have a great line-up of bands for August. I thank you in advance for supporting live music and making a point to go out dancing at the Rhythm Club while I'm away. I know I won't be here to nudge you out of your cozy homes to do the "turn around" (that awful moment when it seems so nice to stay home instead of turning around to go out dancing... but once you get to the club you are soooooo happy you did it and can't imagine why you almost didn't!). So take this as your "gentle shove" from Rusty for the next few weeks to get to the club and support those live bands -- they love coming to the Rhythm Club and playing for you, because you really appreciate them, and they tell me over, and over again how much they feel that.

Rusty and Ron now have a series for those who want to take their dancing to the next level. The course, entitled "The Master Track - It's All About You" is limited to twelve students. The June-July series is fully booked, but we are already taking reservations for September-October.

The eight-week course focuses on your own dancing. Each week, Rusty and Ron will be working with each of the students individually and as a group in a series of exercises and challenges. The students will be video taped each week, the tapes will be studied as a group (in Lindy By The Sea's traditional upbeat, encouraging, and friendly environment) to examine individual areas of goals and progress. At the end of the eight week course, each student is presented with a dvd of their own dancing to track improvement and continue with on-going skills.

This course will start up every eight weeks. The total cost for all eight classes, and the dvd is $100/per student, and includes a personal dvd of your work throughout the course. What a value!

LINDY HOP MADRID -- I'm just tyring to keep you inspired for some travelling this summer. Take a look at what's happening in Spain with Lindy Hop!

    Swing Shift
    www.rustyfrank.com

    * Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

    JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

    1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

    1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

    2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
