"Cave a Saint-Germain-des-Pres, 1947

This postcard was brought to us all the way from Paris, France,
from our student Yves Magnier.
We especially love the "enthusiasm" on the faces of the gentlemen viewers!

RENDEZVOUS REVIEW -- WHAT FUN!

Last Sunday, I hosted a "Rendezvous Review" session for those who had participated in the Balboa Rendezvous. There were fifteen of us who got together and tried to reconstruct some of the wonderful moves we had been bombarded with over that tasty weekend. You can see by our smiling faces, we had a good time. If you're wondering why we're all pointing at Susie, it's 'cause she's wearing the Rendezvous t-shirt!

Hurrah for Bal!

SPECIAL THANKS TO JOE HANSEN

Every now and then, people just appear who offer up their time and talent to make our swing dance community that much better. Recently another such great one stepped up to the plate and offered up his graphic designing skills, one Joe Hansen. You may have already noticed the beautiful "Jean and Dean" flyer which he whipped up in about an hour and a half. Here's another little goodie which will be appearing next week, a new class bookmark postcard. Thank you, Joe! You're a genius!

ONCE AGAIN.... CALLING ALL BOYS! FOR TUESDAYS -- THE TRACK AND FEATURED CLASS

It's happened again, we've got twice as many women as men in our Tuesday evening classes The Track and the Featured Class. We're only in week 2 of this series, and every week is new material (not progressive), so please come along and help! If you can only make one class, you are more needed for the Track, 7:30pm.

It's tonight!

It's not too late to join our Tuesday series. Remember, we repeat everything taught on the first week at the second week of classes. Bring along those friends and family who couldn't make the first day.

FEATURED APRIL CLASS: "TWO-HANDED MOVES"

No need to worry about what to do with your free hand in this class! All the moves taught in the series will utilize both of 'em. We'll be using a variety of Lindy, East Coast Swing, and Charleston moves for your dancing pleasuring. (Level 3 and up)

"THE MASTER TRACK -- IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU!"
NEW 8-WEEK SERIES WITH RUSTY AND RON STARTS APRIL 4TH

LIMITED ENROLLMENT -- RESERVE YOUR SPOT FOR JUNE-JULY SERIES

Rusty and Ron now have a series for those who want to take their dancing to the next level. The course, entitled "The Master Track - It's All About You" is limited to twelve students. The April-May series is fully booked, but we are already taking reservations for June-July.

The eight-week course focuses on your own dancing. Each week, Rusty and Ron will be working with each of the students individually and as a group in a series of exercises and challenges. The students will be video taped each week, the tapes will be studied as a group (in Lindy By The Sea's traditional upbeat, encouraging, and friendly environment) to examine individual areas of goals and progress. At the end of the eight week course, each student is presented with a dvd of their own dancing to track improvement and continue with on-going skills.

If you would like to reserve your spot, email us asap: info@rustyfrank.com

This course will start up every eight weeks. The total cost for all eight classes, and the dvd is $100/per student, and includes a personal dvd of your work throughout the course. What a value!

Here's the first Master Track, 2006. They surprised us by dressing up for their final class.

When we think about the dancers from the 1940's who really changed the face of our dance, one dancer who readily comes to mind is the great Jean Veloz. Now in her 80's, though you'd never know it!, Jean is as vivacious as she was back in "Groovie Movie" (1943).

We are thrilled to announce a special workshop just for you with this amazing dancer.

So mark your calendars now -- Sunday April 23rd, 11am-1pm.

"The Track Series" was developed by Rusty Frank and Ron Campbell in 2005. "We wanted a program that included just about every move a Lindy Hopper would want to know!" It's turned out to be a sensational program, so much so, that Lindy By The Sea students insisted Rusty & Ron make correlating DVDs.

The six DVD set matches the 6-month program that Rusty and Ron teach at Lindy By The Sea. Each Track is color coded and contains stand alone moves. In other words, students can choose any or all of the DVDs.

Each Track contains curriculum covering variations of the following moves: Swingouts, Charleston, Sugar Pushes, Slides, Boogie Steps, Hollywood Style, Savoy Style, Related Dances (1920s Charleston, Balboa, and Collegiate Shag), Styling, and Stop Reverses.

SOME PEOPLE ARE BORN TO DANCE Here's fun article via The Discovery Channel. It claims that dancers are born with at leasts two special genes that give them a leg up on the rest of us! Take a look and see what you think!

Swing Shift
www.rustyfrank.com

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
