The Silver Belles, read about them in our Link of the Week

"I'd always used to hang out with guys between shows, eating up any tap moves they could teach me.
Dance, dance, dance.
I'd dance all day if I could"

YES, YOU HEARD RIGHT
THE JIVE ACES ARE BACK TOMORROW NITE -- WED. MARCH 22

For those of you who missed last month's Jive's engagement, now is your chance to see what all the uproar is about. These guys are just something else. As it says in their publicity:

We couldn't be luckier, as the Jive Aces are coming back for another date at The Rhythm Club next week, March 22nd. They are putting the finishing touches on some new recordings, and they told me that life just wouldn't be complete if they didn't come back to our club (well, and Fatburgers). They are some guys!

Real Music
Real Style
Real Entertainment

And our MC extraordinaire will be on hand -- Mr. Maxwell DeMille!

GIO'S B-DAY PARTY AT THE RHYTHM CLUB 3/15/06
MORE CAKE

Last week was Ron's birthday, and this week's it's Gio's -- all the Rhythm Pals are accounted for. Make sure to come out and give Gio the best birthday dance possible!

Yeah, more cake!

HOORAY FOR LEVEL 1!
TAKE A LOOK AT THEM ON THE WEBSITE

Gio and I couldn't be more proud of our current Level 1 beginners. They are doing so great! I went around and snapped some pics of them in class on Sunday, and you'll see by their happy faces we just might have some new addicts!

We have urged (nudged, push, cajoled, nagged, encouraged) them to come to the Rhythm Club tomorrow nite. You'll recognize them, as they'll be the nervously smiling people in the corners. Make sure to put on your "swing angel wings" and invite them out onto the dance floor. We all remember what it was like to be a beginner -- oh, my goodness!

I am also thrilled that we once again have a child in class. She's 7 1/2 years old, and just LOVES swing dancing. Her name is Becca, and you'll see plenty of her out on the dance floor. Let's hear it for the future!

NEW PRICES FOR CLASSES AT LINDY BY THE SEA

Take a look HERE for our new price schedule for classes.* Don't panic, it's only about $4 a series ($2 for the second class).

Remember, when you pre-register online (or in advance) you save 10% off our regular prices. Using our online registration is safe and secure; we use Paypal as they have a solid reputation around the globe. It's very easy to use, and makes it easy for us here in the office, as well!

Special thanks to Stanley Sheff, aka Maxwell DeMille, for helping me to redesign our registration page. Let me know what you think... Hopefully it is clear and easy to use.

Also, we wanted to let you know that you can now sign up more than one person at one time! Just put in the "quantity," and you've done it.

*I try to keep the prices as low as possible, and haven't raised prices since 2002, but I finally had to do it: our rent is being raised at Rebekah Hall.

"THE MASTER TRACK -- IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU!"
NEW 8-WEEK SERIES WITH RUSTY AND RON STARTS APRIL 4TH

LIMITED ENROLLMENT -- RESERVE YOUR SPOT FOR APRIL-MAY SERIES

Rusty and Ron are introducing a brand new series for those who want to take their dancing to the next level. The course, entitled "The Master Track - It's All About You" is limited to fourteen students. The Feb-Mar series has been going great, but we are already taking reservations for April-May.

The eight-week course focuses on your own dancing. Each week, Rusty and Ron will be working with each of the students individually and as a group in a series of exercises and challenges. The students will be video taped each week, the tapes will be studied as a group (in Lindy By The Sea's traditional upbeat, encouraging, and friendly environment) to examine individual areas of goals and progress. At the end of the eight week course, each student is presented with a dvd of their own dancing to track improvement and continue with on-going skills.

The eight-week course is open for enrollment for the April-May series (first come first serve). If you would like to reserve your spot, email us asap: info@rustyfrank.com

This course will start up every eight weeks. The total cost for all eight classes, and the dvd is $100/per student. What a value!

SAVE THE DATE -- SUNDAY APRIL 23
WORKSHOP WITH LEGENDARY SWING DANCER JEAN VELOZ!

When we think about the dancers from the 1940's who really changed the face of our dance, one dancer who readily comes to mind is the great Jean Veloz. Now in her 80's, though you'd never know it!, Jean is as vivacious as she was back in "Groovie Moovie" (1943).

We are thrilled to announce a special workshop just for you with this amazing dancer.

So mark your calendars now -- Sunday April 23rd, 11am-1pm.

More info to follow!

"The Track Series" was developed by Rusty Frank and Ron Campbell in 2005. "We wanted a program that included just about every move a Lindy Hopper would want to know!" It's turned out to be a sensational program, so much so, that Lindy By The Sea students insisted Rusty & Ron make correlating DVDs.

The six DVD set matches the 6-month program that Rusty and Ron teach at Lindy By The Sea. Each Track is color coded and contains stand alone moves. In other words, students can choose any or all of the DVDs.

Each Track contains curriculum covering variations of the following moves: Swingouts, Charleston, Sugar Pushes, Slides, Boogie Steps, Hollywood Style, Savoy Style, Related Dances (1920s Charleston, Balboa, and Collegiate Shag), Styling, and Stop Reverses.

SILVER BELLS -- BEEN RICH ALL MY LIFE Directed by Sundance Audience Award winning filmmaker Heather Lyn MacDonald, Been Rich All My Life follows the most unlikely troupe of tap dancers. They are the "Silver Belles," five women aged 84 to 96. In their heyday they worked at some of Harlem's most prestigious haunts, performing with legendary band leaders like Cab Calloway, Jimmie Lunceford and Duke Ellington. They met in the 1930's as chorus dancers at the Apollo and the Cotton Club. When the big band era ended, and with it the need for show dancers, they all went into other work. They regrouped in 1985, put their shoes back on and sassy as they ever were are still performing regularly. They may not kick as high, but they are hip-swaying and show-biz savvy. These women will disrupt any notions you have of old age. (READ THE REST ON THEIR SITE...)

Swing Shift

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
