LOSING A FRIEND, LOSING A LEGEND

As you now know, our dance legend and friend, Fayard Nicholas, passed away very peacefully at home last night at 8:20pm. If you would like to read about him and what we have been up to, click HERE. He was such a friend to all of us dancers. And it was such a treat that he was at our Katrina Fundraiser in September last year. I know that those of you who met him will never forget him.

I am trying to make sure that his beautiful and loving wife, Katherine, will be okay these next few months... so if you have a bit of spare change to send her way to help with hospital bills and just getting on her feet... you can make a donation through The Fayard Nicholas Fund to her by clicking on the button below. I thank you in advance. I have known Katherine since I was 11 years old... and she has been more than a saint to Fayard. Now I am so happy we can help her.

THE TRACK SERIES

"The Track Series" was developed by Rusty Frank and Ron Campbell in 2005 for the enthusiastic Lindy Hopper. "We wanted a program that included just about every move a Lindy Hopper would want to know!" It's turned out to be a sensational program, so much so, that Lindy By The Sea students insisted Rusty & Ron make correlating DVDs. See more below.

SECOND SERIES OF 2006

"THE MASTER TRACK -- IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU!"
NEW 8-WEEK SERIES WITH RUSTY AND RON STARTS FEB 7TH

LIMITED ENROLLMENT -- TWO LEADERS SPOTS STILL OPEN FOR FEB

Rusty and Ron are introducing a brand new series for those who want to take their dancing to the next level. The course, entitled "The Master Track - It's All About You" is limited to fourteen students, and there are still two leader spots available for Feb-Mar series.

The eight-week course focuses on your own dancing. Each week, Rusty and Ron will be working with each of the students individually and as a group in a series of exercises and challenges. The students will be video taped each week, the tapes will be studied as a group (in Lindy By The Sea's traditional upbeat, encouraging, and friendly environment) to examine individual areas of goals and progress. At the end of the eight week course, each student is presented with a dvd of their own dancing to track improvement and continue with on-going skills.

The eight-week course is open for enrollment for the April-May series (first come first serve). If you would like to reserve your spot, email us asap: info@rustyfrank.com

This course will start up every eight weeks. The total cost for all eight classes, and the dvd is $100/per student. What a value!

REVAMP FASHION SHOW Fashion Shows Seek To Offer Total Vintage Experience

In this day and age, the mention of a fashion show conjures up images of hundreds of viewers, celebrities and a fast paced montage of surly amazons wearing surlier designs. Blink and you've missed it. Don't blink and you're assaulted by a never-ending blur of fastuous fashion. Flashy it might be. Memorable, maybe, but intimate it's not.

It wasn't always this way. Classic film buffs might remember the amenities of the department store seen in George Cukor's "The Women" where many of the most memorable scenes took place. It's a picture of civilized femininity and luxurious indulgence. Also, who can forget the scene in "Vertigo", when after hearing the description of a specific grey suit, the proprietor of a salon sends out three models for James Stewart's scrutiny, so that he might choose one for the lovely Kim Novak. In the twenty- first century, film is the only reminder of this delightful way to experience retail fashion. How appealing people think and go back to their catalogs and stuffy, tiny dressing rooms.

reVamp hopes to change all that. Beginning with its January 29th Sunday Afternoon Fashion Show showcasing their 1940s Collection. The vintage-inspired design house brings the charm back to shopping. At the exclusive intimate shows, located in the reVamp salon set in the Historic Core of downtown LA, guests are given a tally sheet with which to mark any designs in which they are interested. Wine is served and guests are free to mingle with each other and the models in order to get a close-up look at a particular garment. After choosing, guests are given the garments they have selected in their size to be fit by Fitting Specialists. Custom and bridal design are available by appointment. The experience is unlike any other available and is made more special because of the exquisite vintage reproductions, superb styling and attention to detail seldom seen in fashions today. The Art Deco salon's atmosphere is exciting and provides a lavish and exclusive experience for the contemporary lover of vintage style. It conjures the Golden Age of Bullocks Wilshire, and feels as if one has truly stepped back in time.

For fashion show reservations call 213.488.3387. The show is free, but a $5 deposit is required due to limited seating and returned upon arrival at the fashion show. reVamp is located at 834 South Broadway, Suite 1200 next to the Orpheum Theatre downtown LA.

Swing Shift
www.swingshiftontap.com

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
