OVER $12,000 RAISED FOR LEGENDARY DANCER FAYARD NICHOLAS
THANKS TO YOU ALL, HE IS "OUT OF THE RED"!
(BUT NOT OUT OF BED -- THE HOSPITAL BED, YET)

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR WONDERFUL HELP

I'll be sending out a separate email this afternoon with an update on Fayard and Katherine Nicholas, but I just wanted to thank everyone who has been so helpful with a kind word, a beautiful card, or a donation to aid this amazing couple to literally get back on their feet.

I have set up a page on my website for Fayard Nicholas that includes a list of things you can do to help and donation buttons.

RUSTYFRANK.COM/FAYARD NICHOLAS.HTM

People from around the world have pitched in to help get this couple going again -- the list includes Germany, Switzerland, Australia, & England.

We really are part of one dance community.

if you would like to read more about the Fayard Nicholas, and The Nicholas Brothers, check out our Link of the Week at the bottom of this email.

OUR GLAMOROUS GALS 1940'S HAIRSTYLING WORKSHOPS A HIT!

Monday, November 21st workshop

We sure had fun styling (and trying to style) hair of twenty-five swing dancers this past week at two different workshops.

Let's dood it up tonight, shall we? Any of the gals who were at the workshop, let's show everyone what we learned -- pick a hairstyle and wear it to the Rhythm Club tonight! (Not to mention at our Holiday Party on the 21st!)

And, boys, these gals are going to be a bit self-conscious, so make sure you say very nice things, and try to stay away from teasing. You're the best!

Sunday, November 27th workshop

I have uploaded the scrapbooks (click HERE) -- and YES, I also put up the scrapbook of "How To Tie A Bandana" (I know, I know, these are the truly important facts in the world). Click HERE

HORNETS PLACE AT THE U.S. OPEN

Let's cheer for our very own local team -- the Hollywood Hornets -- they placed 4th at the U.S. Open dance championships. They were especially pleased as this year they received higher scores (this competition uses Relative Placement) than ever before: 2-2s, 2-3s, 1-4, 1-5, and 1-6. As this is primarily a West Coast Swing event, Lindy Hoppers are a true minority, and the Hornet's 4th place was a fabulous achievemtn -- Well done! Hornets!

NEW WEB PAGES ON OUR SITE

There are so many ideas I have for the website, but I couldn't figure out how to have them all on there until yesterday. I'm gonna put on a button that simply says "more pages." There you'll find some fun pages like:

What got you started swing dancing? This will be a page of your individual stories. You can send them to me at your leisure, and I'll post them onto that page.

Swing dancers travel the world This page will show you wearing your Rhythm Club bowling shirt or t-shirt at some famous place around the world (the Eiffel Tower, anyone?).

FAYARD NICHOLAS - NICHOLAS BROTHERS. We know that not everyone is an expert on the Nicholas Brother, so we've chosen our link this week to fill you all in on this amazing dance duo.

Swing Shift

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.

"How do I join?"...
Right now, fill in your email address
and click the Yahoo log (that's it!):
