IT'S ONLY A WEEK AWAY! AND IT'S ONLY TWO HOURS TOTAL!

DON'T MISS IT
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH, 11AM-1PM
406 E. GRAND AVE., EL SEGUNDO 90245

That's right, our first ever Retro Vendor and Vintage Clothing Sale is this coming Sunday. Please make sure to note that it's only two hours and it's FREE! We've never done this before, but it looks like we'll be doing it again, that's for sure.

I would highly recommend that you check out the websites of our vendors and see if there is anything specific you want them to bring in your size. If you see something, why not give them a call ahead of time and ask them to bring it along on Sunday for you to try.

I've already got a dress and a pair of shoes picked out for myself.

You can click on any of the links just below and start your window shopping:

Stop Staring Clothing, Besame Cosmetics, and Re-Mix Shoes.

You can help us make this first time event a hit by passing the word on to your friends who may also be interested.

RHYTHM CLUB HALLOWEEN PARTY A HOWLING SUCCESS!

Eighty of our costumed revellers at the Rhythm Club's annual Halloween Party 10/26/05.
Legendary dancer 92-year old John Mills seated in the front row in between Maxwell DeMille and Rusty Frank

I know it seems I am always saying "this was the BEST night at the Rhythm Club", but last week's party was again one of those nights! What fun was had by all at last week's annual Rhythm Club Halloween Party. We topped all previous Halloween attendance records with 150 dancers there and MOST of them in costume!

The costumes were fantastic, and I never cease to be amazed by the creativity (Hilja as a domino, Bill as a "Eight-Beatnik", and your favorite Michael as the "Hurricane Man" -- with windswept necktie and newspaper permanently blown on to his pant leg.

I would especially like to thanks those who loaned/donated us their Halloween decorations (Steven, The Choquettes, Tammy & Jerry), the early-bird set-up crew (Steven, Hilja, Little Liz, Captain Fun -- yikes, who am I leaving out? forgive me!), and the ever wonderful breakdown crew (Jon, Jessica, & Bill).

Special thanks to Pete Jacobs and His Wartime Radio Revue. They played the best we've ever heard them, nearly blowing the roof off with their fantastic renditions of the classic swing charts. Pete also went above and beyond the call of duty by accompanying our "Costume Parade" with appropriate music -- "The Adams' Family" and "The Munsters" theme songs.

The Professor and Nathan brought their special brand of spooky dj-ing during band breaks keeping the party in high spirits.

And what would a party be without the glib Maxwell DeMille? With his vintage brand of pep, vim, and verve, DeMille was his classy self and looked mah-velous in his military duds.

Thank you EVERYONE for making the effort with your great costumes and your party mood. We had loads of newcomers, and I feel certain that they had a great time.

Yes, it's that time again, "The First Wednesday of the Month" when we have our Beginner Swing Dance Class at the Rhythm Club. We offer this super easy class for those who just want to check out the scene. Maybe they're not sure enough about swing dancing to sign up for a full 4-week Lindy By The Sea course yet... This class is just meant to give them a "taste" of the dance and the people, the environment, so to speak. Let all your co-workers, friends, relatives, and others (?) know about it. Oh yes, this is also a nice class for our shy beginner students who have been trying to get up their nerve o come to the Rhythm Club. Take the class and you'll meet a bunch of people right off the bat.

SOCAL SWING FORUM: There are quite a few swing forums around, and here's one that's been around for a bit, but which I just discovered last week and is terribly nifty. It's very well organized and a fine posting board for local events. It's member run and anyone can join and post upcoming events. Take a look... it's for LA, Orange County, and San Diego primarily, but also has info on events around the world. It also seems that all the local swing event organizers post there, so you can really get a quick check on what's happening in our swing dance community.

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
