UPCOMING EVENTS TO NOTE IN YOUR DATE BOOK

*** TO-NITE -- HALLOWEEN PARTY AT THE RHYTHM CLUB ***
CASH PRIZES! $100, $50, $25!
WED. 10/26

RHYTHM CLUB HALLOWEEN PARTY TO-NITE!

PIZZA PARTY TO THE EARLY BIRDS WHO HELP SET UP AT 7:00PM

That's right, TO-NITE is our annual Rhythm Club Halloween Costume Dance!

We're gonna have a little pizza party for those early birds who come to the club at 7:00pm to help set up our decorations. Yum yum. Fun fun!

I have to admit, I'm like a little kid right now, looking forward to the dance. I always loved Halloween, the excitement, the anticipation, planning the costume... But, now, as an adult, there's just something magical about dancing the night away with people dressed in a variety of creative costumes. You know if you've been before, and you'll find out tonight for sure! I know this, I can't wait!

See you all. And remember, if you are having a hard time coming up with a costume, pajamas are always an easy one!

"BRING A BUDDY" MONTH!
FREE CLASSES

So here's how it works: You bring a new student to Level 1, and you get the entire series for FREE!!!!*

This is such a fun idea in that it:

1. Brings new "fishies" into our little pond.
2. Keeps our swing dance scene living that much longer.
3. You get to review your basics, or
4. You can go through as an "opposite"(ever wanted to learn to lead? follow?)
5. Your friends have a friendly face in the crowd.
AND
6. These brand new students get to be in a class where just about half of the students already know how to dance! So they really get a head start!

The new Sunday Series begins on October 30th at 2:00pm (Rebekah Hall).

*If you are a current or former Lindy By The Sea student,
you take the entire series for free and your "Buddy" needs to be a new student.

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDS MIDNIGHT SATURDAY THE 29TH

By the way, Sunday the 30th is the end of the end (boo hoo) of Daylight Savings Time. "Spring ahead fall behind...."

TUESDAY FEATURED CLASS - BALBOA!

Yes, we are entering our fourth month of Balboa (does this mean after nine months, we're Balboa dancers?). Anyway, everyone is doing so great in their Balboa, we couldn't resist continuing on. Now the fun begins! Everyone's got their basics and we can build on some very nifty variations.

If you already know your Bal basics, you are most welcome to join this class.

GOLDEN TICKET

THOSE FABULOUS FORTIES -- ABOARD THE QUEEN MARY: This came to us from one of our Level 3 students, and it looks like a blast for anyone who loves the Swing Era. Here's what they have to say:

"Now in its 8th SMASH MONTH! In the grand tradition of legendary cabarets & luxurious restaurants of the past, TIBBIES at the QUEEN MARY brings you the best in fine dining & extravagant entertainment! Experience sumptuous cuisine along with the critically acclaimed LIVE stage revue, "Those Fabulous Forties!" - A fun-filled, nostalgic journey back to that grand era of big band music, boogie-woogie dancing and romantic love songs."

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast). Basically, we swing like a gate!

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
