SUMMER SWING DANCES

As if we are not lucky enough living in Los Angeles, one of the swing dance capitols of the world, now it's summer time with scads of outdoor FREE swing events. Make sure to keep an eye on the calendar sections of your local papers, as these dances crop up all over town. Remember, no matter your dance level, to the average public, you're gonna look like the "swingin'ist rugcutter!"

SAVE THE DATE:
SUNDAY, AUGUST 7th, 5-7pm
POLLIWOG PARK DANCE - WITH MORA'S MODERN SWINGTET!

Doing the Shim Sham in Polliwog Park, 2003

We already have plans to dance our tootsies off right in Manhattan Beach on Sunday, August 7th. Why not join us and we'll have a big showing of swing dancing in the South Bay. Wear your Lindy By The Sea - Rhythm Club t-shirts and bowling shirts!.

We had about twenty dancers show up at the last minute at the free concert at Library Park in El Segundo. The band invited us to dance right on the stage with them! It doesn't get much better than that.

We'll be covering the basics and getting into some good variations for your dancing pleasure. So don't forget to sign up for this series: July 27, August 3, 10, 17, 24th.

CAMP HOLLYWOOD: It's just around the corner, and "we're all going"! Why not join us? Camp Hollywood is the closest swing dance camp to our South Bay community, and always a sure fire hit. It is a weekend full of classes, dances, contests, and more fun than you can shake a stick at. And who puts it all on? Why, Miss Hilary Alexander... dancer extraordinaire, singer extraordinaire, and organizer extraordinaire. You'll see her this week at the Rhythm Club with The Campus Five -- providing the vocals. Why not say hi to her and find out more about Camp Hollywood. We always have her full program on the flyer tables.

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
