April 6th 2005
In front of the historic Balboa Pavilion at the Balboa Rendezvous. Don't ya wish you had gone?! You can see our very own Rhythm Club pal John Mills front and center. Well done! Joel and Alison, you are the best.
"There is nothing more notable in Socrates than that he found time, when he was an old man, to learn music and dancing, and thought it time well spent."

I'M OFF ON THE ROAD TO NORWAY
It's the time of year again, the season for international teaching. Today, I board a plane destined for the United Kingdom, first to have a few days of R and R visiting my cousin Bryan who is performing in the UK tour of "High Society" and then off to Bergen, Norway to teach tap dancing.
Since having my shoulder surgery, believe me, I can really use this short time of rest. It's really been quite the challenge. The tap should be loads of fun, meeting new dancing friend-to-be, and resting the ol' wing before coming back into the fray here in California.
We've got the great crew here taking care of things in my absence: Ron and Gio will be holding forth with all of classes... so have a great time and don't be too rough on them!
The Rhythm Club will also be up and running whilst I'm away under the excellent musicianship of Nathan and The Professor. (Remember the crazy April schedule as a result of our new dance floor... see below)
Note: There probably are a lot of newcomers who don't know much about my dance history and why a group from Norway would want to bring around the world (it's just luck on my part!). If you wish, take a look at my bio HERE.
Meanwhile, have a great couple of weeks, and I'll look forward to hearing all about it upon my return. And HUGE thanks to all of you are helping in my absence.
And, YES, I will take plenty of pictures!
BOWLING SHIRT UPDATE
The Bowling shirts are IN IN IN!!! And Jamie's got 'em! He'll be bringing them to the Rhythm Club tomorrow night and also to classes. If you still owe for them, bring your check along ($40 payable to "Rusty Frank") and he'll swap that for your shirt. They look great, and I have a feeling we might just be doing another order soon as people are already eyeing them enviously.
Thanks to a new student recommendation, I now have my own "domain" -- "RustyFrank.com". For those of you who have trouble remember the complete name "SwingShiftOnTap.com"... here's something much easier, AND it brings you right to our site! Thanks to the entrepid Stanley Sheff, aka Maxwell DeMille, for making all this possible -- webhost extrodinaire.
NEW APRIL SERIES
NOT TOO LATE TO JOIN SUNDAY BEGINNER CLASSES
The new series got off to a bang! Another huge class for Level 1, and just terrific for Level 2 and 3. Remember, you can still join any of these classes as they will review week two.

WE'RE GETTING A NEW FLOOR AT THE RHYTHM CLUB!
That's right! Only a year an a half since the water damage incident at the Elk's Lodge, we are going to be getting a brand new dance floor. Can you imagine what this means?! A dance floor just for use. Perfect for dancing. It's going to be completely supervised and put in by our very own Michael D'Angelo. He's the best. And we're the luckiest.
However, it does mean that we're going to have to move around for a few weeks and maybe even be "dark" a week or two. But the end result will be worth it. Stay tuned for further announcements and more good news. Here's the schedule:

WITH GIO AND JANINE, ACTUALLY
as Rusty will be in Norway
Yes, it's that time again, "The First Wednesday of the Month" when we have our Beginner Swing Dance Class at the Rhythm Club. We offer this super easy class for those who just want to check out the scene. Maybe they're not sure enough about swing dancing to sign up for a full 4-week Lindy By The Sea course yet... This class is just meant to give them a "taste" of the dance and the people, the environment, so to speak. Let all your co-workers, friends, relatives, and others (?) know about it.
This Week's Celebrations
If it's your birthday this week, just let us know at the Rhythm Club so you can get your birthday dance!
One of our very favorites - Rudy, and all dressed up!

what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian,
Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the
Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer
or swing music enthusiast).
JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?
Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."
THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:
1. Having fun! (Fun)
2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)
1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).
2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.
The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
