GIO'S BIRTHDAY DANCE AT THE RHYTHM CLUB
Gio and his wonderful wife, Mae-Lae
We're celebrating Gio's birthday tonight at the Rhythm Club. Make sure to help give Gio the best birthday dance ever!
DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME
Just a reminder, once again, don't forget, set those clocks, remember.... Daylight Savings Time happens this weekend. Spring ahead, and you'll arrive at Sunday's new series of class right on time. See ya there!
TUESDAY CLASS PLAY "APRIL FOOLS" JOKE ON RUSTY
As many of you know, I have a reoccuring nightmare that I have a classroom full of swing dance students, and as I try to teach they just wander around the room like zombies. Well, they pulled it off last night in class as a pre-April Fool's joke. Just as I was about to expound on some salient point, everyone turned their backs on me, tapped their feet, and "zoned out". Ahhhhhhhrrhrhrhhrhhrhchhchhh! Well done to the prankster organizer -- Jamie "Candy Man" England.
BOWLING SHIRT UPDATE
For those of you who ordered bowling shirts, they'll be in on Monday! We'll have them at classes and the Rhythm Club for pickup. The xL Black will be a couple weeks late... sorry.
Thanks to a new student recommendation, I now have my own "domain" -- "RustyFrank.com". For those of you who have trouble remember the complete name "SwingShiftOnTap.com"... here's something much easier, AND it brings you right to our site! Thanks to the entrepid Stanley Sheff, aka Maxwell DeMille, for making all this possible -- webhost extrodinaire.
NEW APRIL SERIES
BEGINS THIS SUNDAY! (DID WE MENTION DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME?)
Our new Sunday classes begin on April 3rd. Say... did we remember to remind you that it's Daylight Savings Time? hmmmmm.
Our curriculum is posted HERE We will be in Levels 1 & 2 B this series. For those of you who have completed 1 and/or 2 A, we'll look forward to seeing you again for this series of classes which is 3/4 review and 1/4 new stuff (whoo hoo! -- Charleston!). Level 3 has become a wonderfully fun class for Lindy Hop musicality and styling. If you are still having "issues" with knowing where you are in the music, wondering whether it's a 32 bar chorus or a 12 bar blues, where is the little "one" and where is the big "one", how to hit the breaks, and how to jazz up your basics.... come along to Level 3!
NEW FEATURED CLASS
"DEAN COLLINS SHIM SHAM" -- FOR ALL LEVELS!
Our "Dean Collins Shim Sham" classes started off with a bang! Great attendance and loads of fun. If you would like to joint his class, come along next week. We'll be starting on the second chorus of the dance, so you can scuffle along with the rest of us.
Our Featured Class this series is "Dean Collins Shim Sham". This is a
non-partnered swing dance... so you can actually be ANY level to join the class! Dean Collins was one of the all-time great swing dancers, and he made up an amazing variation on the traditional Shim Sham. His version has loads of Boogie moves that will bring you to the next level of your dancing.
"WHY SHOULD I TAKE THIS CLASS?"
People often ask us why we teach non-partnered swing dances. Our reply is frank... we can teach you partnered moves, but these moves don't inherently teach you how to move and "look" like a Lindy Hopper. For those of you who are really trying to take your dancing to the next level, learning the Dean Collins Shim Sham, will do the trick, we kid you not. Many of the steps in the dance are eccentric by nature, and get your feet really moving and teach you body isolation (e.g. how to shake your shoulders, wag your fingers, triple step, and cross your eyes at the same time... you get the picture).
Basically, trust us!
OMT (One more thing...) We will have the new Marcus and Barbl "Dean Collins Shim Sham" instructional dvd available for purchase. It's terrific, and then you can practice at home.
Remember, Level 4 students, you can come back through any Level 1, 2, or 3 classes for $10/each for the entire series!
For you more advanced dancers, The Zone will be on Monday nites this series.
FOR MONDAY NITE CLASSES -- MOOSE LODGE
514 W. Imperial Avenue * El Segundo * 90245
New location for Monday nite classes -- The Moose Lodge. We are VERY excited to have this new location. It's right off Imperial Highway, just around the corner from our other class locations. There's plenty of parking and a well-lit parking lot. The floor is linoleum, so we suggest that if you are "floor fussy", bring some peds to put over your shoes. Please take a note of the Monday and Tuesday class times and locations, as they differ slightly. Here's a MAP of the Moose location.

WE'RE GETTING A NEW FLOOR AT THE RHYTHM CLUB!
That's right! Only a year an a half since the water damage incident at the Elk's Lodge, we are going to be getting a brand new dance floor. Can you imagine what this means?! A dance floor just for use. Perfect for dancing. It's going to be completely supervised and put in by our very own Michael D'Angelo. He's the best. And we're the luckiest.
However, it does mean that we're going to have to move around for a few weeks and maybe even be "dark" a week or two. But the end result will be worth it. Stay tuned for further announcements and more good news. Here's the schedule:

SWING MUSIC.NET:Wow, this is another great find. A site that has everything you could ever want to know about Swing music, the history, photographs, info on big bands and small groups, you name it. Broaden your horizens and spend a few moments on this site.
what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian,
Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the
Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer
or swing music enthusiast).
JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?
Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."
THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:
1. Having fun! (Fun)
2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)
1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).
2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.
The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
