WHAT A START

We couldn't stop smiling all day on Sunday... we had a total of 83 students throughout the day! Our "New Year's Resolution" beginners classes really started off with a bang. It always thrills us to see this dance we love to continue it's upsurge. We could tell those beginners were having a ball -- there was loads of laughing and smiles abounded! Thanks to everyone who helps us in keeping this going by spreading the word to their friends. It's because of you that we have our dance!

TUESDAYS: THE TRACK, CHARLESTON VARIATIONS

CALLING ALL MEN!

Where the heck were you fellows? We had more than twice as many ladies as men. Don't make those women stand around! Come and get 'em! They'll be so happy to see you walk through the door. (All of our new material is posted on our website for your happy edification HERE.)

SUNDAYS LINDY: LEVELS 1, 2, 3

It's not too late to join our Sunday classes; we review everything taught week 1 in week 2's class. So come along and join the fun! And tell your friends they don't have to wait until February.

Remember, Level 4 students, you can come back through any Level 1, 2, or 3 classes for $10/each for the entire series!

1. What is it?
2. How does it work?
3. What does it do for me?
4. How do I get one?

1. What is it?: "The Quick Stop Card" is a Lindy By The Sea card that you can use to buy our classes, workshops, and merchandise.

2. How does it work? When you make a purchase, we will bill the credit card you have designated (an American Express, Visa, or Mastercard). The item will show up on your credit card statement as "Swing Shift".

3. What does it do for me? That's simple. Instead of having to give us your personal credit card each time you make a purchase, you just show us your "Quick Stop" card and you're done. No waiting, nothing. You can also use your card by email or over the phone with us, by just telling us your name and "Quick Stop" number and your purchase. Done.

4. How do I get one? Just fill out our "Quick Stop" registration card once. Then you'll be issued a Lindy By The Sea Number, e.g. Joe Shmo, 101. which will appear on your "Quick Stop" card.

If you have any questions about the "Quick Stop", give us a call, 310-606-5606, or shoot us an email.

P.S. We chose the name "Quick Stop" as it is one of our favorite Lindy Hop moves; it's stylish, flashy, and quick!

RED CROSS "TSUNAMI RELIEF" FUNDRAISER FOR TSUNAMI RELIEF AT
RUSTY'S RHYTHM CLUB - JANUARY 26TH!

LET'S RAISE $1,000 FOR THE AMERICAN RED CROSS'
INTERNATIONAL RESPONSE FUND!

A LETTER FROM RUSTY

I know many of us have been heartbroken over the events of the past weeks resulting from the Tsunami devastation. Watching the news night after night, reading the personal stories of loss... makes us wonder how to find joy in our lives amidst such world suffering.

Being so far away we often feel helpless. But we can make a difference. We can come together as a dance community and help.

We will be having a special Tsunami Relief fundraiser at our weekly Rhythm Club dance on January 26th. Our evening's theme is going to be "Collegiate"(as we have that evening on stage The Campus Five). In addition to the evening's festivities, we are going to try to raise as much money as possible for the Red Cross' International Response Fund.

We'll have taxi dancers on hand with whom you can have a lovely dance for only $2, and we'll have raffle tickets you can buy for your chance to win some great prizes. Our goal will be to raise $1,000. We've done it before! Let's see if we can do it again.

HELP US BY DONATING A RAFFLE PRIZE

We already have some great prizes on hand, but if anyone would like to donate a truly cool and special prize that we can use in the raffle, please notify us via email: info@swingshiftontap.com or by phone 310.606.5606.

MAIL IN YOUR RED CROSS DONATION GET YOUR RAFFLE TICKETS BY POST

If you are unable to attend the fundraiser, but would like to make a donation or buy some raffle tickets, you may do so by: Sending your check payable to:

"The American Red Cross - International Response Fund" to:

Rusty Frank

Enclose a note with your name, email address, and phone number, and if you would like raffle tickets, how many you would like. We will bring the raffle tickets to the Rhythm Club for you on January 26th.

Dancingly,

Drop Me Off In Harlem: You just never know what you'll find on a search for something else! That's what happened this morning in looking for an appropriate "joyful" picture of the week. This week's link of the week is a veritable treasure trove of information, pictures, and video on our favorite subject. The Kennedy Center seems to have sponsored this site and it's an historic overview of Harlem from 1917 to 1935.

One of my favorite places on this site is the MAP. Here you can click on a blue spot and it will bring up a description, with photo, of what historic nite spot lived on that location.

Make sure to find your way to THIS PAGE , it's got a wonderful description of Harlem and the Savoy Ballroom (The Home of Happy Feet), and there is some historic video to view as well!

Have fun with this site!

Swing Shift
www.swingshiftontap.com

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.

"How do I join?"...
Right now, fill in your email address
