RHYTHM CLUB HOLIDAY PARTY TOMORROW NITE! DEC. 15TH DRESS UP

Anyone who knows me, knows I just LOVE to dress vintage. Give me an excuse, drop a hat, and I'll run to my wardrobe looking through my racks of collectibles to select just the right thing. I'm still pondering what to wear tomorrow nite... hmm... "do I wear this gown? Can I dance in it?" "Or, shall I wear this one?"

The best part about our annual Holiday Party, is seeing our Rhythm Club looking like a set in a Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire movie -- with everyone all glammed up. So, ladies and gents, go for it!

We'll have cookies and decorations and all of YOU!

SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC) MOVIE NITE
'TWAS GREAT FUN

Our Swing Shift Rhythm Club "Movie Night" was a blast. We met and saw the American remake of "Shall We Dance." What fun. The movie really hit for us. The story being about a man who fills a void in his life with dancing, and finds that he not only learns how to dance, but he makes new friends, has fun, and has an exhilarating time with it all in the process.

Our favorite new quote is, "5 to 1. It's a five to one ratio!" Stanley Tucci instructs Richard Gere that to really dance, one must spend five hours social dancing to each one hour of class to get anywhere in the process of learning to become a dancers.

We've decided to modify it by "It's 3.5 to 1, 3.5 to 1" (as the Rhythm Club each week is three and a half hours of dancing!). Of course, you could always go out more!!

Stay tuned for announcements of future screenings and events with the Swing Shift Rhythm Club (don't forget to join below).

JOIN THE FUN!
BUT, WHAT THE HECK IS IT?

Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."

THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:

1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)

1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).

2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.

The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.

Stop Staring: Wow! Looking for some retro style clothes??? Here's something new to us via our new Level 1 students. This store is called "Stop Staring" and it's got both a physical location and an on-line location.

Wait a second, we got to tell you how it all happened. Gio and Rusty happened to be at the Derby one night. And all of the sudden they found themselves talking with this adorable quartet in one of the booths. The foursome was dressed to the nines in retro... thus the mutual "attraction". When the sitters found out the standers were dancers, and teachers (!), no sooner than you could say "spectators", three of the four signed up for Level One Lindy Hop with Lindy By The Sea. Now... they come into class, and they still look great! Miss Alicia has come to all three of her beginner classes looking absolutely adorable, AND in high heels! What a gal!

Next, Alicia and her hubby James hands us flyers for their store! "Stop Staring." We've got the proprietress herself in class. Are we lucky, or what! So we thought all of you should know about her great store and check it out. I'm sure there are some of you who still have some holiday shopping left, eh!

Swing Shift

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).

Our Swing Shift Rhythm Club (SSRC) is the volunteer arm of our local swing dance community. Through the SSRC, we visit senior homes, children hospitals, and entertain and dance at street fairs. The purpose of the club is to do some good deeds and promote the fun of swing dancing.

Anyone can join the club. The events are varied, and purely volunteer in nature. You'll get a notice through the SSRC Yahoo Group website of upcoming events, and you can chose which one(s) you'd like to attend.
