"Don't look at your feet to see if you are doing it right. Just dance."
ONE MORE MONTH OF FUN IN 2004
I always love this time of year. First of all, there are so many really good movies! Secondly (and much more important) everyone is in a GREAT mood. Despite some of the holiday stresses, or maybe because of them, people are in a celebratory mood all month. I love it. The Rhythm Club always has such a good feeling about with smiles abounding.
I've planned a wonderful month for all of us, starting tomorrow nite with Dean Mora's Swingtet. I'm a Mora fan from way back; as many of you know, he was the first band I heard during this "resurgence" back at the Monday nite Derby nites of 1998. (By the way, mark you calendars for next year, as I've booked his orchestra (!) for Valentines.)
Tomorrow nite at The Rhythm Club is a "first Wednesday" so we also have the beginner's swing dance lesson from 7:30-8:00pm. Spred the word.
I love having theme nites, so we've got two in December: On the 8th, with The Fabulous Esquires Orchestra, it's "Hawaiian Nite," and on the 15th, our special Holiday Party with The Jonathan Stout Orchestra, it's "Dress Up Nite" (vintage style 1940s, if you've got it!)
So, on with the fun!

Yes, it's that time again, "The First Wednesday of the Month" when we have our Beginner Swing Dance Class at the Rhythm Club. We offer this super easy class for those who just want to check out the scene. Maybe they're not sure enough about swing dancing to sign up for a full 4-week Lindy By The Sea course yet... This class is just meant to give them a "taste" of the dance and the people, the environment, so to speak. Let all your co-workers, friends, relatives, and others (?) know about it.

This Week's Celebrations
If it's your birthday this week, just let us know at the Rhythm Club so you can get your birthday dance!
Mark you calendars for a SSRC Movie Nite. If "Shall We Dance" is still playing, we'll go see that. If not, we'll go see "Polar Express", which has many of our swing and tap buddies as models! Just mark the date for now, and we'll find out what is still playing and where.
We welcome aboard two new coordinators for the SSRC. Cathryn Sayre will be our "Fun Coordinator" and Norman Kajikawa will be our "Photo Coordinator." Take a look at the photos he's loaded up on the site from previous SSRC events.
Jessica Densmore is our "Philanthropy Coordinator." She's been doing an amazing job these past years, bringing swing dancers and happiness into senior homes and hospitals.Check it out here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SwingShiftRhythmClub/
Many of you still don't know about our Swing Shift Rhythm Club. It's one of our best kept secrets. Now is the time to get the SSRC "above the radar."
THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB (SSRC), founded in 2000 by Rusty Frank's swing dance students, The SSRC has two missions:
1. Having fun! (Fun) 2. Doing good deeds! (Philanthropy)
1. Having fun: Events where swing dancers can socialize and get to know each other outside of class (vintage clothes shopping, going to a dance-related movie, dancing in the park, eating at retro restaurants before a dance, etc.).
2. Doing good deeds: Events where we bring swing dancing to hospitals, senior homes, and community events for the purpose of good deeds, entertainment, and education in the Los Angeles area.
The SSRC is a volunteer club open to the public and the events are organized by its members. There are no dues. Members can attend as many or as few events as they wish.
