Augie and Rusty stike a pose in front of those shy boys -- The Jive Aces
"Regarding perpetually pondering hypothetical interrogatives:
You can spend your whole life trying to determine how many angels can dance on
the head of a pin. Or you can stop being a pinhead and Actually Do Something,
like maybe ask an angel - or a reasonable simulacrum - to dance!

AUGIE'S PARTY AT THE RHYTHM CLUB
WITH THE JIVE ACES -- IN A WORD "FABULOUS"
For all who attended last week's dance at The Rhythm Club, I think we'll all agree it was one of the all time great nites there. One hundred and sixty dancers packed the floor, and the energy was higher than a kite. The Jive Aces put on their "normal" spectacular show, and won many new fans. The highlight for all of us was seeing Augie Freeman back on the dance floor.
Augie and Rusty with each and every one of The Jive Aces!
Augie had been away from our dancing family for many, many months, finishing his tour of duty with the Marines in Fallujah, Iraq. We were all worried sick for this special Lindy Hopper, and all heaved a communal sigh of relief when he touched down State-side. He sure lit up our dancefloor Wednesday! We had a special welcome-home dance for Augie, and the song was hand-picked by the Jives themselves -- "The White Cliffs of Dover" -- a special song in the hearts of all Brits from back in the WWII days.
A BIG special thanks to Cathryn Sayre who spear headed the "welcome home" banner and made 150 yellow ribbons for us all to wear at The Rhythm Club. What an angel!

Standing in front of the banner she made for Augie, and wearing the yellow ribbons she made. Thanks, Cathryn!
RUSTY MAKES IT TO CD!
AND PERFORMS WITH THE JIVE ACES!!
"in the rain... in the rain... ooooooohhhhh ah!... in the rain" a la Louis Prima
I have to say, I also got the treat of a lifetime getting to sing AND dance with The Jives. As many of you may remember, back earlier in the year, The Jives invited me to watch one of their recording sessions. While there, they asked to lay down some temporary vocals for their version of Singin' In The Rain. Thinking on my feet (!), I offered to run get my tap shoes from my car and lay down some taps for them to use or not use when they got to the final editing. We had a grand time! But then, we thought the song was lost and not going to be chosen for the album. Ah, the cutting room floor. But... one of the sound engineers found the source material and began playing around with it -- and the rest is history! The Jives think it's the best tract on their new cd. And I made it to my first cd (which has been a life-long dream -- to join the ranks of tap dancers on record: Fred Astaire, Bill Robinson, Eleanor Powell, and now... whaahooo! me!).
At the Rhythm Club, we recreated the recording for the live crowd. What fun!

HALLOWEEN AT THE RHYTHM CLUB!
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27
Halloween is just around the corner! So start thinking about your swing dancing costume for the Rhythm Club. Each year, we pull out all the stops for our Halloween Party. These year we've got The Jonathan Stout Orchestra (!) for your dancing pleasure. They're busy choosing all their "scary" Halloween swing songs.
We'll have our annual costume parade and costume contest. We've heard you actually have a fighting chance, as last year's winner is unable to attend! So, go for it! Rusty already has her costume all picked out.
Remember, when you are choosing your costume, make sure you can DANCE! And SEE!

SHALL WE DANCE: I wondered if this remake could hold a candle to the Japanese original -- and it does. What a fun rolick through our world of dance. Seems like we should organize a Lindy By The Sea outing? Any takers to organize it????
what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian,
Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the
Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer
or swing music enthusiast).
