PUTTIN' ON THE RITZ

"Now, if you're blue
And you don't know where to go to
Why don't you go where fashion sits
Puttin' on the Ritz
Different types who wear a daycoat
Pants with stripes and cutaway coat
Perfect fits
Puttin' on the Ritz

Dressed up like a million dollar trooper
Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper
Super-duper

Come, let's mix where Rockefellers
Walk with sticks or "umberellas"
In their mitts
Puttin' on the Ritz

- --Irving Berlin, sung by Fred Astaire in "Blue Skies"

IT'S TO-NITE!
PUTTIN' ON THE RITZ AT THE RHYTHM CLUB
SEPTEMBER 29TH
BIG BAND NITE WITH THE SUPERB MORA'S MODERN RHYTHMISTS

Those of us who attended The Fort MacArthur dance on Saturday nite got a glimpse of things to come. Dean Mora had his superb Swingtet on hand, filling the night air with perfect recreations of music from the 1930's. It just made us even more excited about tonite's dance with his entire big band! Mora's Modern Rhythmists. I've been like a little kid this past week, like "Santy Claus" is coming -- I've even taken to jumping up and down. And it's all because this is the first time I've had the Rhythmists at the Rhythm Club.

Won't you join me in "Puttin' On The Ritz" at The Rhythm Club for a nite of dancing to Mora's Modern Rhythmists. Dress 1930's-'40's vintage, and let's really create some atmosphere!

And, remember, Enio will be really disappointed if you don't dress up! (If you don't know who he is, ask me to point him out tonight.)

AUGIE'S TOUR OF DUTY DONE!
HE'S ONE HIS WAY HOME!!

He's not outta there yet, but it's just around the corner. Keep crossing your fingers and thinking good thoughts for his safely, because until we see his smiling face at the Rhythm Club, I known none of us is going to be able to breathe easy. We are still hoping that he will be able to join us on The Rhythm Club dance floor October 13, 2004. Keep thinking good thoughts for this young lad.

Here's the latest:

Hey Rusty!!

Good to hear from you again. Sorry it's been a while. We are officially done though!! I can't believe it! We are really just waiting to go home now. I am so excited. I should be home on the 8th of October. I hope I can make it out to the Rhythm Club on the 13th though. I don't know for sure yet but I promise that if it is at all possible, I will be there. I am doing well though and tomm night is my last night teaching swing here at Camp Fallujah. Sunday we are outta here and gone to Kuwait!! I am stoked as you can imagine.

Hmm...there really isn't that much more to tell Rusty. At least not without a cup of coffee. He he. I feel like I have had a lot of incredible experiences and more importantly a lot of incredible people in my life. You are without a doubt one of those incredible persons Rusty. Thank you for all that you have done for me. I am grateful for your friendship and for the many things that you have done for me. You are a tremendous person and you have incredible friends. They are your family Rusty. I am honored to be apart of that family. I look forward to seeing you again when I return. I promise to call and let you know what's going on just as soon as I can. Take care.

your swing son,

Augie

AUGIE FREEMAN: For those of you who are new to our list, Augie Freeman is a young swing dancer from Lindy By The Sea who is currently serving with the Marines in Fallujah, Iraq. We have basically "adopted" him as our "swing son". Several months ago, we all chipped in and sent over the coolest package to him... but it never arrived. We had cookie, swing t-shirts, baseball caps, cds, books... all sorts of goodies. He was injured while on tour, but is doing great.

If you want to email him, click on this address and a composer window will pop up:

You can email Augie here: laf98z@yahoo.com

MORA'S MODERN RHYTHMISTS: We know we had this one last week. But since they are going to be on hand tonite, we thought you might want to gander a littler longer!

Swing Shift
www.swingshiftontap.com

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
