This Week's Celebrations
If it's your birthday this week, just let us know at the Rhythm Club so you can get your birthday dance!
One of our very own Lindy By The Sea gang (who has asked to remain anonymous) has initiated a wonderful program: A Lindy By The Sea USC Scholarship. His observation was that I have been teaching level 1 & 2 classes over at USC for about six years, but those students don't have any further options on campus to progress with their swing dancing. Knowing that they are on a tight budget, he came up with the idea of financially sponsoring a student every month for a Tuesday night advanced class.
When I brought this up with the USC Swing Dance Club, they were bowled over. Not only were they extremely touched, but they were lining up for the chance. We found out right away that they definitely wanted to come in pairs, as some of them don't have cars, and for safety reasons. So, I asked one night at the Rhythm Club if anyone would like to sponsor one more student; within a minute, I got another sponsor.
Without much publicity, this USC Student Scholarship has been up and running for about three months!
Now it's completely official, I even created a web page on the site, to make it easy for you to sponsor a student.http://swingshiftontap.com/usc.asp
The idea is fantastic! Keep "feeding the pool with young blood". If 18-year olds are interested in this dance, we have a great chance of it living on and on and on!Sponsor using Paypal
Rusty's book, "TAP! The Greatest Tap Dance Stars and Their Stories 1900-1955" has once again been reprinted. She wrote the book during the years 1988-1990. It was first published in 1990, and has been in print ever since! If you don't have a copy yet, here's your chance. You can get your very own personally autographed copy. For more information on TAP! click HERE.
DVDs! The conversion process has been completed for the Level One instructional Lindy Hop videos to DVD. I have also completed the conversion for my Leonard Reed Shim Sham Shimmy video to dvd. This was an instructional tap dance video (for beginners!) that I made with Mr. Reed back in 1994. Go HERE to order the Lindy Level 1 dvd, and HERE to order the Shim Sham DVD.

LADANCEINFO.COM -- INTERVIEW RUSTY: Our swing dance connection, Jeff "Laswinginfo.com", has been conducting a series of interviews for his swing dance website. His most recent interview was with Rusty. Have a gander!
* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
JOIN THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB TODAY!
Swing Shift Rhythm Club (SSRC) is the volunteer arm of our local swing
dance community. Through the SSRC, we visit senior homes, children
hospitals, and entertain and dance at street fairs. The purpose of the
club is to do some good deeds and promote the fun of swing dancing.
