SOME HAPPY NEWS...
RUSTY GETS TELEVISION CHOREOGRAPHY JOB!

It definitely is "who you know" in the business called "show business." Thanks to two college buddies who are now successful television writers, I will be choreographing a couple small swing dance sequences this week and next for a brand new television show called "Quintuplets". Stay tuned for details (I get the script this morning at 3:00am, and have to be at the production meeting at 9:30am with all my ideas... you get the picture). I'll let you know the airing date when I know it. Here's the show's official website: http://www.fox.com/quints/home.htm

JULY "BALBOA CRAZY"

FEATURED CLASS -- BASIC BALBOA
INTER/ADV BALBOA!

That's right -- you read it correctly. We've been overwhelmed with requests for more Balboa at all levels. So, we had a brainstorm, why not turn Tuesday nite into Balboa Crazy Nite! The 7:30-8:30 series will be Basic Balboa, and then the 8:30-9:30 (which is normally Level 4) will be an intermediate/advanced Balboa. We've been learning Bal moves from dancers around the world, and we promise to bring in moves you have NEVER learned before!! Come out of the woodwork! For those dancers (who shall remain nameless -- but we know who you are -- wink), come and join us again!!

One of our very own Lindy By The Sea gang (who has asked to remain anonymous) has initiated a wonderful program: A Lindy By The Sea USC Scholarship. His observation was that I have been teaching level 1 & 2 classes over at USC for about six years, but those students don't have any further options on campus to progress with their swing dancing. Knowing that they are on a tight budget, he came up with the idea of financially sponsoring a student every month for a Tuesday night advanced class.

When I brought this up with the USC Swing Dance Club, they were bowled over. Not only were they extremely touched, but they were lining up for the chance. We found out right away that they definitely wanted to come in pairs, as some of them don't have cars, and for safety reasons. So, I asked one night at the Rhythm Club if anyone would like to sponsor one more student; within a minute, I got another sponsor.

Without much publicity, this USC Student Scholarship has been up and running for about three months!

Now it's completely official, I even created a web page on the site, to make it easy for you to sponsor a student.

The idea is fantastic! Keep "feeding the pool with young blood". If 18-year olds are interested in this dance, we have a great chance of it living on and on and on!

Swing Shift
www.swingshiftontap.com

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
