FEATURED CLASS APRIL: FLASH MOVES!
Join us on Tuesdays in April for our Featured Class: "Flash Moves." In this four-week series, we will be teaching and reviewing some of the great moves that flash up your swing dancing, moves such as "Saucy Kicks," "Quick Stops," "Charleston Stop", "Flying Charleston," "Savoy Kicks." These moves are known around the world (for your dancing pleasure), and we'll be teaching them with our usual clarity of lead and follow so you wont miss them on the dance floor! Level 3 and up.
Here's one of our favorite requests: The Artesia Christian Home in Artesia has asked us to dance at their facility. Info is as follows:
When: Saturday, March 20, 2004 from 3PM to 4PM
Where: Artesia Christian Home 11614 E. 183rd St., Artesia, CA 90701
We will do a scripted program surrounding the music and dancing (the new combination CD player and karaoke machine works well and makes the narration a lot easier to coordinate with the music).

Our Swing Shift Rhythm Club (SSRC) is the volunteer arm of our local swing dance community. Through the SSRC, we visit senior homes, children hospitals, and entertain and dance at street fairs. The purpose of the club is to do some good deeds and promote the fun of swing dancing. Anyone can join the club. The events are varied, and purely volunteer in nature. You'll get a notice through the SSRC Yahoo Group website of upcoming events, and you can chose which one(s) you'd like to attend.
RYAN'S FIRST DANCE
Rhythm Pal Ron Campbell celebrated his birthday at the Rhythm Club last Wednesday (see above Quicktime Quickies for footage). His adorable wife, Robin, was there with their newborn, Ryan, in tow. Ryan, born last November, had his very first family dance -- talk about cute!
ALL STAR CONVERSE CONTEST LAST WEEK AT THE RHYTHM CLUB

It has taken me a few days to think about what to say to you in this letter. Every time I think that you have made me happy, you have gone and made me happier. Your special tribute to my 80th birthday made me feel special. It was one of the finest moments of my life. and I have had a lot of fine moments, but your recognition of my 80th will remain with me forever. It's like a present that lasts and lasts and never is forgotten. Again, let me thank you from the bottom of my heart for that memory.
As always, I remain,
Pete "Mr. 5x5" Vincent
We just loved this picture of Rudy Flores! It really shows the wonderful diversity on our dance floor at the Rhythm Club. Isn't it just one of the best things about swing dancing, how people of different backgrounds, ages, cultures, can all meet in dancing bliss on the dance floor!
New scrapbooks up from Rusty's Birthday Bash, The Nathalie and Yuval Workshop, Fort MacArthur, and "Swing!". Happy Viewing!
A Return To Style: As they say in their headline: Welcome to the 20-to-40-Style Syndicate ( Community of interests in '20s to '40s common-culture, music and fashion ). You're definitely going to enjoy browsing through this German website. It's got lovely art from the past, the past we love to play in! Make sure you look at the photo gallery; you'd swear these people are from the past. Rusty's big questions is, "Why haven't I met these people!"
* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
