Lambeth Walk, 1938

headline-quote-week.jpg

"Lambeth Walk"
Russ Morgan
Music and Lyrics by Noel Gay and Douglas Furber

Any time you're Lambeth way
Any evening, any day,
You'll find us all
Doin' the Lambeth walk.
Ev'ry little Lambeth gal
With her little Lambeth pal,
You'll find 'em all
Doin' the Lambeth walk.
Ev'rything free and easy,
Do as darn well pleasey,
Why don't you make your way there?
Go there, stay there,
Once you get down Lambeth way
Ev'ry evening, ev'ry day,
You'll find yourself
Doin' the Lambeth walk.

HUELL HOWSER "CALIFORNIA GOLD"
FILMING AT FORT MACARTHUR 2/14/04 1-5PM

CoatOfArms.gif huell.jpg

Event to be held at:
Fort MacArthur Museum
3601 S. Gaffey St.
San Pedro, CA 90731

Map (as well as interesting details about the museum) available/click http://www.ftmac.org

Fort MacArthur volunteer, John Kanaster, has requested help from the Swing community to help provide atmosphere for "...a look back at the February 1942 Los Angeles Air Raid". The fort, which, "...is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the history of Fort MacArthur, a U.S. Army post which guarded the Los Angeles Harbor from 1914 - 1974".

A look at the website describes this bit of Los Angeles history quite thoroughly and the intent of the Museum is to recreate the look and feel of this time period as closely as possible. Hence the call to the Swing community to demonstrate this 1940's time period. An added bonus is the appearance of Huell Howser of, "California Gold" fame, and his film crew are scheduled to record some of the displays.

The Event takes place from 1pm to 5pm. During this time frame there is a need for swing dancers dressed in vintage or vintage recreation 1940's fashion to appear around the grounds. At the "stage area" (where the SSRC held the last Fort MacArthur Event) there will be dancing (cement, just like 3rd Street Promenade, so wear, "those" shoes) to a scripted program produced and directed by SSRC volunteer Laura Greenlund. Also, Alex Vasallo has generously donated photos for a display planned near the stage area. Dance times planned at 1pm to 1:45pm and 2:15 to 3:15pm; music by The Fabulous Esquires and DJ. Filming will begin about 3pm. The Museum requests a $3.00 donation at the door.

Current confirmed participants include:

Rusty Frank
John Kanaster
Laura Greenlund
Jessica Densmore
Alice and Dan
Debbie Wastling
Rita Catanzarite

Being Valentine's Day, this could be part of a unique memory in years to come.

http://www.bakeliteboutique.com: Recently I met a wonderful lady at a party, and when I inquired into her business, she told me about her amazing website: bakeliteboutique.com. Wow! This site is heaven for any of you bakelite fans. Of course, it can be just the opposite for any of you collectors... as you'll be presented with one of the best collections of bakelite for sale that I've ever seen.

Swing Shift

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
