FIRE-RELIEF FUNDRAISER
RAISES $1,080!

firerelievetaxi.jpg
Our "Taxi Dancers"!

Yeah! We did it! We even surpased by goal of $1,000 and raised $1,080 last Wednesday at the Rhythm Club. Through three big donations, and loads of $2.00 taxi dancing tickets, you all pooled your resources to do a great deed! And, if you ask me, there's nothing better than the spirit of a room full of swing dancers raising money for a good cause! What energy!

Thanks to all our taxi dancers:
The Swing Shift Fliers
The Hollywood Hornets
The USC Swing Dancers
And our special guests: Maxwell DeMille, Chandler Smith, Tise Chao, Nick Williams, "Tatoo" Tony, Glenn Parkison, Jessica Densmore, and Gio and Mae-Lae (our birthday girl). (Please forgive me if I left off a name)

Thanks also to everyone who baked goodies for the bake sale, including Jeremy's mom! Yummy yummy yummy (how can you stay slim dancing with all this good birthday cake and cookies around???)

And outside of raising all that money, all the guests of the Rhythm Club had a great time dancing with you! Hilary Alexander and I noted that people were dancing with people they may normally be too shy to ask. Well done, everyone!

Orchestra Leader Dean Mora stops by the Rhythm Club. Maxwell DeMille and Rusty Frank enjoy a little laugh together!

The money is being divided, half being sent to the American Red Cross and the other half to the Wildlife Way Station. Thank you again!

STYLING CLASS - MUSICALITY NOTES UP

CLICK HERE: For all of you in the Lindy Styling class, I labored away this morning to put all the "AABA" notes up on the website (and thanks to Stanley Sheff for help solving a glitch there -- oh web genius).

My goal is to raise a minimum of $500... but you know me, I'd love to raise $1,000. You can always just bring a wad of cash or a check in addition to your taxi dance ticket purchases.

The best thing about this fundraiser, I think, is making a difference together. Thank you all again.

FEATURED CLASS - MORE LINDY STYLING!

Lindy Styling has been just too much fun not to continue. And there's still so much more to cover. If you weren't in the series, come along and join this new one! We'd love to have you along with us.

Each week we look at some archival dance clips, some modern swing dance clips, do some rhythm exercises, musicality exercises and work on concepts for opening out your dancing. It's been a great series so far. Don't miss this last series of 2003!

Swing Shift
www.swingshiftontap.com

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
