FIRE-RELIEF FUNDRAISER
RHYTHM CLUB TO-NITE!

Our very own fireman, John, has been out fighting the blazes!

Thanks to all in advance for supporting TONIGHT'S Fire-Relief Fundraiser at the Rhythm Club! I can't wait. What better way to raise money than through our hobby/passion/obsession(?) swing dancing! We've got some wonderful guest taxi dancers for you to dance with to-nite, including members of Rusty's Swing Shift Fliers, The Hollywood Hornets, The USC Dance Club, and some special lindy "celebrities", including Gio & Mae-Lae, Tise Chao, Chandler Smith, Glenn Parkison, Jessica Densmore...

AND! Hold on to your hats, Mr. Maxwell DeMille!! And if that weren't swell enough, Mr. DeMille has offered to give a free pass to his swanky club, Maxwell's At The Argyle, for this coming Monday nite when you dance with him!

HOW THE TAXI DANCE FUNDRAISER WORKS

Many people have asked how the taxi dancing works: You buy tickets for $2.00 a dance. Then you go to the "Taxi Stand" (which will be located on the stage) and "hail" a taxi dancer! Couldn't be more fun.

My goal is to raise a minimum of $500... but you know me, I'd love to raise $1,000. You can always just bring a wad of cash or a check in addition to your taxi dance ticket purchases.

The best thing about this fundraiser, I think, is making a difference together. Thank you all again.

HALLOWEEN PARTY A HOWL!

Our ten finalists, L-R:
Mike, Priscilla, Will, Sally, Chris, Heidi, Mystery Tiger, Nate, Gordon, Debbie!

It was the best yet, with over seventy people dressing up for the Rhythm Club Halloween Bash. Maxwell DeMille was the special guest host, adding his unique vintage flair to the evening's festivities, especially the $100 cash prize costume contest. Thanks, Mr. DeMille, as usual, you were SWELL!

Maxwell awards the $100 to Heidi! Wow!

The winners of the contest were:

1st Prize: Heidi from USC
2nd Prize: Mike the Four-Legged Man
3rd Prize: Priscilla Hula Girl

Thanks go also to Robert "Groovy" Vangor and Nathan "Phantom of the Opera" for giving that extra Halloweeny musical side to the nite! You two never cease to amaze us with your vast collections of swing music.

And thanks to all of you for making the effort to dress up!

Here's a grouping of our costume lindy hoppers!

JEREMY NORMAN HAS A SWING DANCE PARTY FOR HIS FRIENDS

Our student, helper, and new Swing Shift Flier, Jeremy Norman, decided he was tired of telling his friends how great Swing Dancing is, he wanted to SHOW them. So, he put together a party where he got 70 of his nearest and dearest friends out in the backyard, invited Rusty and Ron to teach an hour class, and VOOM, success! This party was a blast. People danced and visited for another two-three hours, and the energy just stayed high from the dancing.

If you would like to host a swing party and show your friends what this madness is all about, give us a call 310 606 5606. If you are one of our students, you get a MUCH better rate!! (happy face inserted here).

Swing Shift
www.swingshiftontap.com

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
