FEATURED CLASS - SWING RUEDA!
Rueda.jpg

Think of a square dance...but in a circle...to swing music...and kinda cooler... hep'er!

If you've never seen or been part of a Swing Rueda, here's the lowdown: You start with a partner and all the dancers form a large circle. There is a dancer who calls the swing dance moves which the entire circle executes in unison. Some moves require partner changes, and that's when the fun begins. Swing Rueda has a spontaneity that is just electrifying, and the dance can be "called" as simple or as complex as suits the dancers' levels. This class is always a hit. And definitely, the more the merrier! Come and join the fun.

Level 2 and up.

The Fall USC Swing Dance series began last Tuesday with Rusty and Ron as guest instructors! Because of a mix-up in the rooms, they had to start the class outside the designated building. As it was day one, Rusty and Ron taught the students how to do the basic triple step triple step rock step in closed position first. Just as the students (about 60) were doing, the entire USC Marching Band (which was practicing on the adjacent track field) began playing the Trojan Fight Song. So..... (you guessed it), the students' first dance was swingin' to their school's song! "Fight on for ol' SC, fight on for victory..."

If you live in the USC area, this is one of the best deals in town. Check out their website for information. Classes start TONIGHT and run for ten weeks. Click HERE for info.

COME AND JOIN MORE FUN -- RICHMOND STREET FAIR
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH -- ALL DAY

richmondstreetfair.jpg

WE NEED YOU! COME HELP WITH OUR BOOTH!!

unclesam.jpg

Every year we get invited to perform at El Segundo's Richmond Street Fair, and this year is no different. We also get a spot for a table to pass out fliers and entice, lure, fish, excite, and generally draw in more people for all the swing dance fun we have throughout the year.

If you think you could help out at our table for a two-hour time slot anytime between 10:00am and 5:00pm, email Rusty so she can set up a schedule.

Rusty also needs two someones to orchestrate the booth setup. If you think you can help with that, we will love you forever!

Also, Rusty's Swing Shift Fliers will be on hand performing some time between 4:15-4:45pm, so come on down and cheer them on, and join in for the social dancing that will take place during that time. Remember to wear your tennies, as we'll be on cement.

Our location will be in front of the Old Town Music Hall, 140 Richmond Street.

This is a really fun fair, with loads of booths for food, games, and knick knacks...HERE

SWINGOLOGYFor those of you swing dancers who have started to travel, you have already found out that you meet the nicest people on the dance road! Several years ago, I was lucky enough to meet this fabulous dance couple, Maja & Sven. They wrote to me this week that their website is up and I should take a look. All I can say is "Wow!" You're gonna love it. It's in German only right now, but you can certainly enjoy your browsing with all the wonderful photos they have up.

Remember, when you travel, make sure to put swing dancing on your itinerary!

Here's one of their upcoming events -- shall we all go?!

Swing Shift
www.swingshiftontap.com

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
