"All the ills of mankind,
all the tragic misfortunes that fill the history books,
all the political blunders,
all the failures of the great leaders have arisen
merely from a lack of skill at dancing."

FEATURED CLASS - SWING RUEDA!

Think of a square dance...but in a circle...to swing music...and kinda cooler... hep'er!

If you've never seen or been part of a Swing Rueda, here's the lowdown: You start with a partner and all the dancers form a large circle. There is a dancer who calls the swing dance moves which the entire circle executes in unison. Some moves require partner changes, and that's when the fun begins. Swing Rueda has a spontaneity that is just electrifying, and the dance can be "called" as simple or as complex as suits the dancers' levels. This class is always a hit. And definitely, the more the merrier! Come and join the fun.

Level 2 and up.

MANHATTAN BEACH ARTS FESTIVAL A BLAST
HERE'S SOME PICS

mb-03-7.jpg

The Swing Shift Fliers were just GREAT! They did two performances at the Manhattan Beach Arts Festival last Sunday. The local crowd cheered them on as they did their stuff. Rusty and Gio did a quick display and then invited any Swing Shift Rhythm Club swing dancers up to join them in a couple of songs. We think the viewers were simply astounded to see so many people rush to the floor and break out into "spontaneous" dancing! Then Rusty invited the crowd up for a free swing dance lesson -- since about twenty children rushed up, Rusty quickly changed plans from a partnered swing class to the good ol' reliable Shim Sham! There's nothing much cuter than twenty little kiddies doing the Shim Sham!

Here's some pictures of the day and you can also go to our scrapbook for more.

COME AND JOIN MORE FUN -- RICHMOND STREET FAIR
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH -- ALL DAY

richmondstreetfair.jpg

WE NEED YOU! COME HELP WITH OUR BOOTH!!

unclesam.jpg

Every year we get invited to perform at El Segundo's Richmond Street Fair, and this year is no different. We also get a spot for a table to pass out fliers and entice, lure, fish, excite, and generally draw in more people for all the swing dance fun we have throughout the year.

If you think you could help out at our table for a two-hour time slot anytime between 10:00am and 5:00pm, email Rusty so she can set up a schedule.

Rusty also needs two someones to orchestrate the booth setup. If you think you can help with that, we will love you forever!

Also, Rusty's Swing Shift Fliers will be on hand performing some time between 4:15-4:45pm, so come on down and cheer them on, and join in for the social dancing that will take place during that time. Remember to wear your tennies, as we'll be on cement.

Our location will be in front of the Old Town Music Hall, 140 Richmond Street.

This is a really fun fair, with loads of booths for food, games, and knick knacks...HERE

Swing Shift
www.swingshiftontap.com

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
