COME AND JOIN THE FUN -- MANHATTAN BEACH ARTS FESTIVAL
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH 12:45-1:30

mb5.jpg

Our next Swing Shift Rhythm Club event is the Manhattan Beach Arts Festival. The Fliers will be performing. In addition, we would love to have as many of our friends on hand to social dance. Our time slot is 12:45-1:30 at the Dance Stage (corner of Highland and Manhattan Beach Blvd). Come along everyone, and let's show 'em' that swing dancing is alive and kicking in the South Bay! For complete info on the festival, click HERE

COME AND JOIN MORE FUN -- RICHMOND STREET FAIR
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH -- ALL DAY

WE NEED YOU! COME HELP WITH OUR BOOTH!!

richmondstreetfair.jpg

Every year we get invited to perform at El Segundo's Richmond Street Fair, and this year is no different. We also get a spot for a table to pass out fliers and entice, lure, fish, excite, and generally draw in more people for all the swing dance fun we have throughout the year.

If you think you could help out at our table for a two-hour time slot anytime between 10:00am and 5:00pm, email Rusty so she can set up a schedule.

Rusty also needs two someones to orchestrate the booth setup. If you think you can help with that, we will love you forever!

Also, Rusty's Swing Shift Fliers will be on hand performing some time between 4:15-4:45pm, so come on down and cheer them on, and join in for the social dancing that will take place during that time. Remember to wear your tennies, as we'll be on cement.

Our location will be in front of the Old Town Music Hall, 140 Richmond Street.

This is a really fun fair, with loads of booths for food, games, and knick knacks...HERE

"THE HAPPINESS TRIO"

The Happiness Trio -- on the Road

Last week, you may remember, our hearty trio tipped the light fantastic at the Buddy Ebsen Tribute and at the Jazz Sweet and Hot Festival. Having met "Davy Crockett" Fess Parker, they decided they should followup on his invitation to come and perform at one of his Thursday Musicales at his hotel in Los Olivos. They booked a night at his fabulous hotel, and joined the fun last Thursday. And what fun it was! Words could never describe the amazing evening of entertainment by local residents and our pals. Imagine, sitting in the lobby of a beautiful hotel with about sixty other happy folk. Imagine being entertained for about two hours by one singer after another... Imagine getting to tap dance (Rusty & Gregory) in front of this appreciative audience... Imagine getting to play the uke and sing for a dazzled audience (Will)... Imagine... It was just the BEST!

We were treated to not only a singing performance by Fess Parker, but also by Ed Ames, and by Fess's wife, Marcie. Wow. And then we got to sit in the lobby with the Parkers for about another hour just "shooting the breeze." Golly gosh! What else can we say except if you ever find yourself up Los Olivos way on a Thursday evening -- go to Fess Parker's hotel!

RUSTYhaircut.jpg

Thanks so much to everyone for all your support. I couldn't believe the number of emails that came in with positive comments! What a great "family"!!!

One additional note... PLEASE DON'T TOUCH MY HEAD! OUCH!!! It was cute... everyone was so enthusiastic about my haircut, they kept patting my head! And it is touch that causes my neuropathy to trigger. I love you all, but don't touch my head :)!!

Here's some of the fun and wonderful comments that came in over the email to me:

Way to go! I think you did a fabulous job and you look beautiful. Bravo! :)

Rusty: You are beautimus - with or without your hair.

Short, long, curly, polka dot... If there were frogs growing out of your head you would still be a doll in my book

Congrats Rusty ! A very liberating move in many ways ! And you are even Prettier with short hair ! Thanks for the heads-up about the haircut! I salute you for taking any and all actions that make you feel better.

The good news is that your really "good stuff" -- "beautiful stuff" -- is on the inside!!!

Wow! Its different, but you're still beautiful, so no worries!

Dearest Rusty:Thank you for sharing your "haircut" with me. I had no idea that you suffered with pain all of this time....you have always had that great big beautiful smile every time I see you. I know that you look like a little pixie now. Hope you saved some locks. You can now try all new hairstyles and wigs if you like and they don't bother your head. [Betty Wood!]

WWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!! It looks GREAT!

Just to reassure you that you still look cute as a button! [all the way from London!]

The picture you sent does you no justice. Seeing you tonight I think makes it clear that your new dew is adorable and quite fitting - it's a great look, it's functional and let's not even mention getting rid of some of that pain. I heard about a pain in the neck - but a pain in the scalp? Keep smiling darlin' - you're a knock out when you smile and it's easy to see why everyone loves you!

Yikes what a horrible thing to be living with! I hope your new do will help. I'm sure you will look as cute as ever whatever your hair style! Your beautiful spirit and energy OOZES out of you! You always look great. I'm sorry that you have to face this ongoing pain situation.

Wow! I've never met you, but you seem like a really cool and ballsy gal! You're new hair cut looks great.

Rusty - you are a courageous and inspiring woman! It's amazing to me that you endure so much pain, and continue to dance, teach, run the Rhythm Club, etc.... and have such a positive spirit!!

Thanks for all you do for us.

The cool thing about cutting your hair is that it's like built in air conditioning. Very nice in the summer.

You are the prettiest, smilingest - hope the haircut helps megga.

Hmmm, was wondering how long it would take...

I'm impressed! YOU DID IT. That took guts! Of course you know how I love short hair. LOL. I am sure it looks great! Maybe you will start a new trend. It could happen.

Not bad... Not bad at all... Now your smile shines even more brightly!

you are so cool and so right. Hair is not worth the pain and to be honest the freedom to know you are who you are hair or no hair say soo much and can only bring wonderful things to you and everyone you love.

Hi Lady! Thanks for the pic'. I love the doo but I'd love ya even if you shaved it all off. When you've got the gift (a beautiful face) to begin with, it almost doesn't matter what you do with the fringe. I hope to see you in October when we come to release # 3 at the Satin BR. All the best for no more pain. Love. Pops. [Swing Session!]

Swing Shift
www.swingshiftontap.com

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
