On with dance, let joy be unconfined, is my motto;
whether there's any dance to dance or any joy to unconfined.

NEW SERIES BEGINS AUGUST 3, 4, 5

Our new series is right around the corner. Set your calendar for another fun month of swing dance classes.

Bring-A-Buddy.jpg

ENCORE! BRING A BUDDY MONTH
CONTINUES THROUGH THE SUMMER!

Our "Bring a Buddy" was so successful, that we are going to extend it through the summer! That's right, "Bring a Buddy" to any Level 1 class and you get the Level 1 series for FREE! That means your friend can take the class with a pal, and you get to show how fast you pick up this stuff! (Not to mention that you get a review of your basics, or you could even go through the class as the other role!)

So bring a buddy this summer -- and you get the Level 1 series for FREE!

See ya in class!

FEATURED CLASS -- MORE BALBOA

The cries were "More Balboa! More Balboa!" Our job is to keep you all happy on the dance floor, so we are more than willing to ablige. More Balboa will feature more and more great Balboa variations.

"What if I missed the first Balboa series?" You may be asking yourself if you can join this new series. And the answer is YES! We'll once again take the first session to review the basic and move on from there with new variations. Come along and join the fun. You'll love Balboa, as it gives you a whole vocabulary of swing moves for faster music.

POLLIWOG PARK LAST SUNDAY!
(Check out the SCRAPBOOK!)

polliwog2003-3.jpg

WOW! Did we ever have fun last Sunday. Rusty and Gio taught a beginner's swing dance class to about one hundred hopefuls, and then the party really began when the fabulous Jumpin' Joz band fired up. While about two thousand picnickers looked on, several hundred swing dancers heated up the cement dance floor for two hours!

polliwog2003-1.jpg polliwog2003-6.jpg

During the band break, Rusty taught about two hundred people the first half of the Shim Sham. People were literally dancing in the aisles!

polliwog2003-5.jpg polliwog2003-4.jpg

One of the afternoon's highlights was an "impromptu" jam session (do you think Rusty might have had something to do with that???). Members of Rusty's amateur dance team "The Swing Shift Fliers" plus graduates from her previous performance classes entertained the masses with the first chorus of the famous "Jeep Jockey Jump" routine done, this time, to Jumpin' Joz's "Straighten up and Fly Right". Then it was no holds barred, and couple after couple literally flew out on to the dance floor.

Check out our scrapbook for great pictures of the afternoon taken by Rusty, Kirk Tuey's mom, and Jennifer Thomas' husband and super-fan Todd. Thanks all for such a wonderful afternoon in the sun. CLICK HERE

Rusty'll be on hand as one of the teachers (wait till you see the list of instructors!). Come along and let's get a really BIG group!

Join Lindy By The Sea gang for this one. Email: john@dancefun.com, call 310-530-0500, or check out their website HERE. Tell them, "Rusty sent me". HAIR WORKSHOP LOADS OF FUN

HairWorkshop7-2003.jpg

Last Saturday, Rusty conducted another one of her ever-popular hair workshops. This time it took place in a private home with ten gorgeous gals. Take a look and see what you think! If you would like to host a hair workshop, give Rusty a call: 310 606 5606.

WATCH OUT!

This delicious piece of dance history was sent to us from our Aussie dance pal -- Michelle Turner. Thanks loads! It doesn't get much better than this!

CAMP HOLLYWOOD! We know. We know. This was last week's Link of the Week -- but...It's just around the corner, and THE only lindy hop camp devoted entirely to "The Hollywood Style" of swing dancing. Our pal, Hilary Alexander, is the event producer, and she works all year to put together a sensational event. Look at the site and you'll see that she's got great bands, great teachers, and a solid venue (really close for all of us South Bay folks).

Swing Shift
www.swingshiftontap.com

* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
