In addition to having the fabulous Hilary Alexander as our guest DJ at the Rhythm Club this Wednesday, we also will be hosting a very special event: The Great South West Club Swing Off Jack and Jill Contest! This contest has been roaming throughout the clubs for the past few weeks, and this contest will be the last chance for people to compete in Los Angeles! You bet it's gonna be fun -- either to enter or to watch! We've got great social dancers in Los Angeles, and this will be a wonderful opportunity for you to jump in the fun either as a participant (don't be shy!) or as an observer. The judges (your very own Rusty included) will be looking for "connection" and "musicality," among other things. Why not bring a pencil and paper along and do your own private judging and see how your opinion compares with the final results!
For more information on the event, check http://camphollywood.net
Nathan E. 8:00-8:30pm
& Professor Vangor at suprise intervals!

The ever-fun Laughlin Lindy Dance camp is comin' up this August. Rusty'll be on hand as one of the teachers (wait till you see the list of instructors!). This camp is probably the most "affordable" of all the swing dance camps, as the $219 includes transportation, three nights in hotel, three meals, all classes and dances! Why don't we see if we can get a Lindy By The Sea gang for this one. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org, call 310-530-0500, or check out their website HERE. Tell them, "Rusty sent me".
The Satin Ballroom, our favorite monthly swing dance, is this Saturday. Not only will you have hours of dancing pleasure, but you'll also have an opportunity to watch the finals of the Great South West Swing Off! Go to http://satinballroom.com for more info.

Catalina Island Museum: We've already mentioned that The Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra will be playing this Saturday on Catalina Island as part of a big fundraiser for the 50th anniversary of the Catalina Island Museum. We had a chance to wonder through this museum over Swing Camp Catalina, and believe us, it's just filled to the brim with the wondrous history of this romantic island. Photographs going back over 100 years. The unique history of Hollyood on the Island. Check out their website http://www.ecatalina.com/museum.asp
* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
