Dancing is the loftiest, the most moving, the most beautiful of the
because it is no merre translation or abstraction from life;
it is life itself.

NEW TUESDAY SERIES START TONIGHT!
A new Level 1 and 2 Series of Lindy Hop
classes begin tonight. Come and join the fun.
Everyone LOVED Sunday classes at the new El Segundo location -- Rebekah
Lodge. As the students came in the room one by one, each sighed, "Parking!!".
Yes, Rebekah Lodge has it's own parking lot, and plenty of street parking.
Never again will you have to wander around the streets, combing for a parking
spot within one mile of classes. All Sunday and Tuesday classes will be
at Rebekah (including our End-of-Series parties). Mondays classes remain
at the Neptunian Woman's Club. Here it all is in a nutshell:

| COMING TO THE RHYTHM CLUB
RUSY & JERRY JORDAN TO TEACH
SATIN BALLROOM -- SATURDAY APRIL 19TH!
In an unusual and delightful event, two
teachers from different schools will be teaming up to teach the Satin Ballroom
class this month -- Jerry Jordan of Retroglide Dance Society and Rusty Frank
of Lindy By The Sea. Usually dance "teams" are brought in to teach, but
Monika and Reinhard came up with this wonderful idea! So come and join us
for another great Los Angeles event.
LAST WEEK AT THE RHYTHM CLUB
KIDS LOVE SWING DANCING!
Last week we had a special beginners' swing
class, as it was attended by a group of VERY enthusiastic kids. Click on
the Quicktime Quickie below, and you'll see what they had to say about swing
dancing. And they'll be back, too. The reason they came to the Rhythm Club
was because one young 14-year old is going to be having her special "Quinceanero"
in June, and she wants it to be a swing party. So, she invited her pals
to learn along with her so they'll know what their doing come June. They'll
be back, too, on May 7th and June 4th. If you see them, make sure you make
them feel welcome!
RUSTY & RON PERFORM
AT EVAN'S GARAGE!
Thursday last, Rusty & Ron took a motor
trip down the Coast to San Diego to perform at a corporate party at the amazing
Evan's Garage. This privately owned garage houses the most amazing collection
of vintage cars, some dating back to 1903(!) and all in pristine condition.
Rusty and Ron got to dance to a really terrific jazz combo throughout the
evening, did two wild Lindy Hop displays, and even got the guests "swinging"
out on the dance floor. Surrounded by wonderful music and sensational cars...
well, it just keeps getting better. Backs up our motto: "You never know
where your dancing shoes will take you!"
MARINA DEL REY YACHT CLUB
SWINGS THE NIGHT AWAY!
Saturday night, a few Lindy By The Sea gang
invaded the Marina Del Rey Yacht Club's '50's Rock 'n' Roll night. Mae-Lae,
Gio, "Professor" Robert Vangor, Michael and Cheryl, and Rusty really challenged
the band. They got the biggest compliment of their lives when, at the end
of the evening, the band leader came up to the group and said, "Usually we
wear out the dancers. But, tonight you wore us out trying to keep up with
you!" Hooray for Lindy Hop! Everyone had a great time; just another example
of dancers and musicians propelling each other onward and upward.
BEVERLY DARLING GETS A SURPRISE
BIRTHDAY PARTY FROM HER DAUGHTER!
Sunday morning, Beverly Darling got the
surprise of her life when she walked in to Il Fornio restaurant in Manhattan
Beach. A mob of her friends from line dancing, swing dancing, boating, and
more hollared "Surprise!!" When her daughter, Sherry, got up and made a
speech, we learned more about Beverly then we could have imagined... including
that she used to visit prisoners to give them "hope" and even survived several
prison riots! What a gal. Happy birthday, Beverly! You really are an inspiration
to us all with that energy and amazing smile! Not to mention the twinkle
in your eyes!
RUSTY PERFORMS AT THE ARGYLE
FINDS SOME SURPRISE FRIENDS!
Last night, Maxwell's At The Argyle celebrated
it's one year anniversary, and Rusty was on tap, so to speak, performing
to "Swing Fever" (pictures next week). She was in for a big surprise when
a lot of her friends from the "outside" showed up to cheer her on including:
Benny (sensation jazz violinist from Janet Klein and Her Parlour Boys),
Keith (the paramedic who nearly three years ago saved her life after her
catasrophic accident), Dave (from the Liquid Radio Players) and more. She
was also delighted to see actor and band leader Johnny Crawford, and they
stopped to pose before the cameras. Johnny got up and crooned a tune with
the fabulous Mora's Modern Swingtet. Our own Will Ryan got up and played
ukuele and sang his own composition "When the Cat's Away." Chester Whitmore
sat in on drums and then lead everyone in an improvised dance. Pal, Richard
Halpern, sang with the band in his unique 1920's style. So, if you missed
it, aren't you sorry now?!

TO AUSTRALIA: That's right. Rusty will be on the road again, but this time,
instead of Europe, she'll be heading Down Under. Last year, when she was
in the Swedish dance camp Herrang, she met two Aussie swing-addicts Cheryl
Glasgow and Matthew Riddle at one of the camp's parties (that very meeting
is pictured above!). As they were shooting the breeze, Rusty told them how
much she loved Australia from her visit over ten years ago, and they said
how much they'd love to have her come down and teach. So they all got to
work on a "Rusty Festival," and now it's just a few weeks away.
First she'll be teaching in Melbourne, and then in Perth. (The trip will
be from April 22nd - May 6th. Lindy By The Sea classes will take a short
break, but the Rhythm Club will still be open!)
So this week, our Link of the Week is Rusty in Melbourne. Enjoy!

what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian,
Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the
Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer
or swing music enthusiast).
