SPECIAL PERFORMANCE BY SWEDISH SWING DANCE TROUPE
THE RHYTHM HOT SHOTS -- 9:00pm!
DJ -- Hilary Alexander!
How lucky can we get! Not only do we have the wonderful Hilary Alexander for our guest dj at the Rhythm Club this week, but, as well, a special added attraction:
This world-renowned performance company (all the way from Stockholm, Sweden) makes rare appearances to the United States, and this is definitely one of them. If you've never heard of them or seen them, you are really in for a treat. They are simply the best of the best. Their performance will consist of three numbers -- tap, singing, and lindy. They'll go on at approximately 9:00pm. So don't miss it!
DAILY BREEZE AT THE RHYTHM CLUB
LET'S SHOW 'EM WHAT SWING IS ALL ABOUT!
This week a reporter and photographer from the Daily Breeze will be coming to the Rhythm Club to do a little story on our South Bay scene. The reporter, Denise Nix, is a swing dancer herself (met her husband at the Derby!), and is looking forward to coming to the Rhythm Club for the first time. You all know how I love when you dress up -- so why not take this opportunity to get out of the jeans and t-shirts, put on the great outfit you've been dying to wear for swing dancing. You KNOW I'll be dressed to the nines!
That's right, after nearly two years of sitting at our Rhythm Club door, greeting you with a smile and collecting your cover, Beverly Darling is "retiring" ("Because I want to DANCE!). She got tired of watching you have all the fun; so as of this week, we'll see her shining on the dance floor rather than sitting at the entrance.
8:00-11:30pm -- Dance! Dance! Dance! SEE YOU THERE!
SEE YOU THERE!

LAST WEEK AT THE RHYTHM CLUB
RON CAMPBELL debuted as a DJ last week at the Rhythm Club and delighted everyone with his array of fabulous music. He brought out music we hadn't heard in years! What fun. See you soon, Ron!
CHARLESTON WORKSHOP A HIT!
Twenty-eight people gathered Saturday for the first Lindy By The Sea Charleston workshop. A what a hit it was. Rusty and Rhythm Pal Ryan Roemer taught two-hours of swell 1920's partner Charleston moves. And everyone had two words to say at the conclusion: "Fun!" "More!" So keep your eyes opened for madcapped Charleston dancers at the Rhythm Club. And when you see 'em, ask 'em for a dance!
SWING SHIFT FLYERS
SWING SHIFT FLYERS have been rehearsing like made. And we thought you might like to see this first picture of the group!
NECCO (WHAT'S IT STAND FOR?)
We had scores of people play our quiz last week. But, Dana Creed was the lucky winner of a free pass to the Rhythm Club. Not only did she email in within two minutes of receiving the weekly email, she guessed it: NECCO stands for New England Confectionary Company. Congratulations, Dana!
LINDY BY THE SEA GANG
PAYS A VISIT TO EL PACHUCO
Last month a car-load of lindy hoppers from Lindy By The Sea trekked over to the Zoot Suit store -- El Pachuco. They were treated royally by owner, Ray. Here you can see the hep cats ready to step out in their reet pleats with the drape shape. Hi de ho! (L-R: Cheryl, Michael, Rusty, Ray) Here's the link if you want to get hep to the jive! El Pachuco
If any of you would like to have a private swing dance lesson, give Rusty a call at 310.606.5606.
THE RHYTHM HOT SHOTS. Rusty's known the Rhythm Hot Shots since 1995! Now it's your turn. She's been teaching at their unique and fabulous summer Herrang dance camp since 1997, and can't speak highly enough about their enthusiasm, ability, and joy with dance -- American Vernacular dances tap and lindy. They are known throughout the world as just being the tops. One of their happiest achievements was winning Amateur Night at the Apollo. Get Lennart to tell you the story of being VERY Swedish and standing on stage before the "toughest friendliest audience" in the world! And remember to greet them with a big Swedish "Yo ho!" this Wednesday!
See you on the dancefloor!
*Wondering what the heck a "gate" is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
